Position Summary
The Payroll and Benefits Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of all payroll transactions, requests, and employee data for Canadian Solar MSS NA entities.
Be the primary contact for all payroll and benefit inquiries and requires exceptional attention to detail, problem solving, and excellent customer service support skills.
The successful candidate will respond to frequent and urgent requests for information relating to benefits, payroll, tax processing, and payroll policy matters.
- Full US and Canada semi-monthly in-house payroll processing using ADP Workforce Now
- Analyze regular vs. overtime hours for accuracy
- Enter and maintain employee pay data, update payroll records as needed
- Track salary adjustments, sick and vacation time
- Update employee payroll deductions and verify deductions match enrollment report
- Perform employment verifications when requested
- Review insurance billings to accurately reconcile between bill, payments, and deductions
- Ensure compliance with Federal and Provincial Acts, Codes and Regulations
- Support the HR Team with ad hoc reporting and special projects
- Provide Payroll Support by serving as the first point of contact for employee questions and escalating issues to the Human Resources Associate
- Process employee changes and transactions in HR, Benefits and Payroll systems with high level of accuracy and data integrity
- Processing RSU transaction payrolls as requested from Stock Administration
- Processing termination checks, garnishments and LOAs
- Handling and responding to tax agency inquiries
- Preparing GL entries, account reconciliations and accruals
- Maintaining and transmitting deduction data files for FSA, HSA & 401K plans
- Quarter / Year-End reconciliation of payroll and RSU transactions
- Handle Sox payroll and benefits audits
- Participate in special projects for annual 401k audit and True Up process
- Conduct research and analysis to assist with special requests and projects
- Work with the HR team, managers, and finance on compensation and pay matters including merit increase, promotion, and special salary adjustment
- Plans and Implement benefits Open Enrollment process
- Provide support and analysis for the annual benefits renewal process
- Reconcile, process, and audit all benefits invoices
- Oversee COBRA administration to ensure timely performance of activities and legal compliance
- Manage leave request working with Flores Leave Solutions
- Other payroll and benefits related matters as needed
Qualifications & Requirements
- BS / BA degree, with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance preferred
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience processing payroll both domestically and in a global environment preferred
- Must have strong knowledge and experience in processing payroll for US and Canada
- Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and prioritization skills a must
- Working knowledge of ADP Workforce and Workday, for US
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Benefits management experience
- Experience with Payroll Tax Equalization and / or XPATs a plus
- Experience with SAP Success Factors preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs, specifically MS Excel
- Thorough understanding of payroll practices and related provincial and federal legislation
- Strong communication skills
