Job Description

The mission of the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) is to protect, preserve, and promote the health and well-being of all Boston residents, particularly the most vulnerable.

The Division of Violence Prevention's Capacity Building & Training Initiative (CBTI) is seeking a full-time Senior Program Manager to co-facilitate CBTI's trauma-informed and equitable training and quality improvement activities with City and community partners.

This role will have a particular focus on initiatives related to vicarious trauma and workforce well-being, positive youth development, and racial justice and health equity.

The ideal candidate will have experience in human services (e.g. in a youth program, community health center, etc.) and is passionate about creating more trauma-informed and equitable organizations and systems.

They have strong group training and facilitation skills in English and Spanish, including navigating learning and dialogue on complex topics such as trauma, resilience, stress, wellbeing, racial equity, and gender equity.

They are self-reflective, collaborative, and welcome giving and receiving constructive feedback from colleagues and partners.

They have experience managing complex projects and are familiar with or excited to learn more about organizational change, quality improvement and evaluation.

They are committed to modeling a trauma-informed and equitable approach in all elements of their work.

Who We Are

The Capacity Building and Training Initiative prevents and addresses violence through strengthening trauma-informed and equitable approaches among providers and systems serving children, youth, adults and families in Boston and beyond.

As a team, we develop and deliver multi-session public training institutes and adapted workshops with service providers and young people.

We also partner with organizations one-on-one and via Learning Collaboratives to build the capacity of staff at all levels (direct service, management and leadership) to enhance the quality of their programming, policies, protocols and workplace culture.

CBTI is proud to work closely with the Office of Recovery Services, Start Strong, the Center for Behavioral Health and Wellness and the Mayor's Office on grant-funded initiatives related to violence prevention, youth substance use prevention and behavioral health.

CBTI seeks to model internally the practices we promote with our external partners; namely utilizing a trauma-informed and equitable approach for ourselves as individuals, as a team, and in supervision.

This includes a "culture of care" or caring for the caregiver, strategies for supporting individual and team physical and emotional safety, cultivating positive relationships, access to resources, collaboration and more.

DUTIES

Training and learning opportunities

  • Lead the annual implementation of the following CBTI core public Training Institutes (co-facilitating with CBTI team members and partners) : Stress, Vicarious Trauma & Resiliency Learning Series : for Immigrant & Refugee Serving ProvidersTrauma, Resilience & Racial Equity Training Institute for Youth Workers.
  • Support CBTI colleagues and partners as needed in co-facilitating : Juntos en Comunidad : Entrenamiento Sobre la Violencia Domestica, el Trauma y la Resiliencia Para Proveedores del Cuidado Infantil (depending on language capacity, see qualifications section below)Racial Justice & Health Equity Training Institute, including racial affinity groups.
  • Collaborate with CBTI team members to : Review training intakes and respond to requests for training from community and City programsMeet with programs and adapt CBTI training content and structure to meet their needsCo-facilitate adapted trainings and follow up with any resources or additional supports.

Organizational capacity building

Co-lead the 2025 pilot of CBTI's Learning Collaborative designed to address vicarious trauma and promote equitable workforce well-being in the mental and behavioral health sector.

Specifically : Agency leadership cohort : Review previous cohort materials and evaluation findings to consider adaptations of existing content and / or creation of new content.

Co-facilitate next learning and coaching sessions with agency leadership representatives on topics such as vicarious trauma, authentic leadership, trauma-informed and equitable management, and organizational change.

Provider cohort : Review previous cohort materials and evaluation findings to consider adaptations of existing content and / or creation of new content.

Co-facilitate next learning and support sessions with Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) mental and behavioral health providers.

The overall goal will be to build community and develop personal and professional coping and wellbeing tools.

  • Support CBTI team members as they implement their respective organizational change activities, particularly those related to workforce well-being Support in co-facilitating learning or coaching sessions with Collaboratives focusing on City workforce and / or youth-serving community-based organizations.
  • Respond to participant requests for technical assistance and coordinate referrals to partner programs as needed

Project management, administrative and team support :

  • Lead project management activities associated with the duties described above. Specific duties include : Developing goals and timelines for deliverables for respective projectsSetting agendas and facilitating planning meetings with colleagues, partners, and consultantsEnsuring programming is relevant to community needs and strengths through engaging key stakeholders, including co-facilitating focus groups, surveys and 1 : 1sProduce written reports and presentations on findings for partners, funders and other stakeholdersEnsuring programming is up-to-date with best practices, including reviewing the literature and other local and national programs doing similar workWork with colleagues and evaluation consultant to administer feedback surveys, transcribe focus group and interview notes, conduct data entry and basic data analysis
  • Lead administrative duties associated with the activities described above : Developing flyers and conducting outreachSetting up registration forms and tracking attendanceScheduling and facilitating planning meetingsSending e-mails and / or making calls / texts, including following up with materials or to respond to requestsHandling day-of logistics for in-person and / or virtual sessions or delegating these tasks appropriately (e.

g. booking space, creating Zoom links, food orders, printing materials, etc.)Work with Director to coordinate with fiscal office and vendors related to stipend payments, gift cards, consultant and community partner facilitator contract paperwork, etc.

  • Utilizing a collaborative, strengths-based approach, provide additional supervision and / or coaching to graduate intern, junior team members, and City and community partners.
