Maintenance Specialist Senior

The Department of Community Services' Transportation Division is looking for two Maintenance Specialist Seniors to join its Road Maintenance team. These positions will work closely with the Transportation Manager and Program Supervisors to accomplish the division's goals, strengthen rapport with staff, management and the community, and use leadership skills to create an environment and culture of safety, trust, and belonging.

In this role, you will :

  • Plan and arrange for maintenance projects within specialty areas (i.e. traffic sign installation, maintenance and street striping, and special maintenance projects).
  • Determine project elements; identify crew size, equipment, and supplies needed; review job specifications with road operations supervisor to ensure requirements are met.
  • Coordinate implementation of maintenance projects and activities.
  • Determine necessary supplies, order supplies, conduct supplies inventory.
  • Conduct labor and equipment costs for projects; develop bids.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety rules and regulations, such as proper traffic control signing and personal protective equipment.
  • Assign workers to specific tasks; communicate procedures to be used, restraints, deadlines, and goals to crew members.
  • Monitor project / activity progress to ensure timely completion of work.
  • Direct work in progress, assess procedures applied, and adjust as circumstances indicated.
  • Perform maintenance tasks and operate equipment as needed.
  • Resolve problems in work activities and / or between crew members.
  • Maintain a variety of reports and records and perform administrative tasks, such as completing time, equipment and materials records, payroll records, cost records, sign and striping records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Transferable Skills

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade; AND
  • Three (3) years of experience at a level equivalent to Maintenance Specialist 1, Maintenance Specialist 2, or Striper Operator; AND
  • Possession of a State of Oregon Commercial Driver License (Class A CDL)

  • This recruitment will be used to fill any current and future full-time, part-time, on-call, temporary and limited duration positions while the eligible for hire list is active.
