JOB SUMMARY :
Registered Nurses in the Penn State Cancer Institute are responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care to a designated group of patients.
RN's work on this 39 bed inpatient unit and care for patients with hematologic and oncologic malignancies and those receiving peripheral blood stem cell transplants.
Our nurses are specially trained in chemotherapy administration and the care of complex intermediate care oncology patients, including those receiving : Leukemic induction chemotherapy, peripheral blood stem cell transplant, and high-dose biotherapy.
Educational opportunities include ONS chemotherapy / biotherapy course, cardiac rhythm interpretation, seminar on peripheral stem cell transplant, oncology topics, and intermediate care topics.
An annual Oncology Core Curriculum Review is offered for staff seeking certification in oncology nursing. Certification is encouraged and financially rewarded.Ã Â
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Ã Â
Currently licensed to practice as a registered nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compactà Â
AHA BLS prior to end of orientation period
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Experience with hematology, oncology or stem cell transplant
Experience in medical / surgical nursing with a desire to care for cancer patients
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Able to sit occasionally; stand constantly; walk frequently.
Able to push / pull 0-20 lbs frequently; 21-75 lbs occasionally.
Able to climb occasionally; reach constantly.
Able to use hand for simple / firm grasping.
