About The Position
Job Title : Clinical Laboratory Scientist Job Specialty : Lab General Job Duration : Not Specified Shift : Varied Day, Evening, Night Available Guaranteed Hours : Not Specified Experience : Not Specified License : Current NYS License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist required.
Certifications : Preferred with ASCP Certification Must-Have : - Education in accordance with the NYS Office of Professions and CLIA requirements of testing personnel.
Job Description : Perform laboratory testing using both manual and automated techniques.- Follow pre-analytic and analytic procedures and maintain records of laboratory tests.
- Maintain records to demonstrate proficiency testing samples are tested like patient specimens.- Adhere to quality assurance procedures, including documenting quality control activities, testing, and calibrations.
- Perform instrument and equipment verifications and maintenance.- Follow policies and procedures when test systems are not meeting performance specifications.
- Identify and document problems affecting test performance, notify the supervisor or director, and document corrective actions.
- Ensure the accuracy and quality of results from pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases.- Notify and document clinicians and patient units of critical values and maintain STAT turnaround time requirements.
- Participate in regulatory readiness for CAP, AABB, NYSDOH, and Joint Commission.- Maintain 12 Continuing Education credits per year.
- Engage in standard operating procedures, proficiency testing, inspection audits, and quality programs, including reporting non-conformances.
- Evaluate test results for abnormalities and confirm those results per department protocols where required.- Contribute to validations, training, and competency assessments as required.
- Manage inventory of lot numbers, expiration dates, labeling, and quality control requirements.- Complete all annual mandatory training, in-services, and ongoing education.
