Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Nursing ordesignee, the Recreational Therapist will engage patients intherapeutic activities.
Recreational therapists will plan, direct,and coordinate recreation-based medical treatment programs to helpmaintain or improve patients' physical, social, and emotionalwell-being.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Organize therapy sessions to interact withpatients and offer recommendations for physical and mental wellness
- Develop and implement rehabilitation programsto help patients adjust to a disability or illness
- Ensure treatment plans are suitable forpatients' physical condition and are in accordance with theirpreferences
- Monitor and keep track ofpatient's progress to modify treatment program as necessary
- Obtain and review patient's medical recordsto assess patients abilities, interests, and needs
- Provide health tips to patients and theirfamilies on leisure activities and lifestyle changes necessary forimproved health conditions
- Organize and leadpatients in recreational activities such as art, sports, music ordance
- Liaise with other health careprofessionals to plan and evaluate therapy programs
- Help patients develop skills useful inparticipating in leisure exercises
- Maintainaccurate record of patient information, treatment program andrecovery progress
- Prepare and present reportsto treatment team to highlight patients response to therapy
- Perform other duties as required.
Education / ExperienceRequirements Required :
- Completed a bachelor's degree (an associatedegree may be accepted depending on work experience)
- 1-5 years of work experience (depending onlevel of education)
Licensure / Certification Requirements Required :
CertifiedTherapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
