Position Title : PNAM Program Career Navigator - Center or Nursing Equity and Excellence

Overview : The Career Navigator will provide individualized support to each PNAM apprentice before, during, and after the apprenticeships.

The Career Navigator reports to the PNAM Program Director and is a single contact to coordinate financial services, educational support, and wrap-around services.

The Navigator will have close contact and thorough knowledge of academic and student support services at each grant-partnered college to connect students to individualized support needs.

The Navigator will be connected with the workforce centers in each region where the apprentices are located so that apprentices will have local access to support services.

The Career Navigator will be a single point of contact for PNAM grant participants across all PNAM funded nursing programs and will coordinate access to wrap-around services.

This includes pre-apprenticeship assistance such as apprentice application assistance, resume writing, interview skills, assistance applying for financial aid and scholarships, and baseline evaluation of support needs with connection to services.

During the program the Navigator will meet twice monthly with participants to tailor wrap-around services such as tutoring, counseling, child care, SNAP, transportation, employer-based aid, work readiness support, licensure support, and assistance with NCLEX preparation.

Post-program services include : job application assistance, resume writing, interview skills, applications to ongoing nursing education programs (i.

e. RN to BSN, APRN), and connection to support services for nurse retention. The Career Navigator will be responsible for entering tracking information and data into Workforce One.

Key Responsibilities :

Career Counseling (50%)

Provides services that may include career counseling and coaching, evaluation, education referrals and assistance in applications, transitional employment referrals, job placement referrals, retention and support service coordination, case coordination, tracking, and reporting activities.

Coordination of Services for Educational & Employment Outcomes (20%)

  • Interacts with internal and external teams to deliver seamless services to individuals and ensure that positive relationships are maintained, resulting in optimal educational and employment outcomes for individuals served.
  • Fosters and manages partnerships with community agencies and healthcare industry partners to provide education and employment opportunities for career advancement and RN qualification attainment.

Student Support Services (20%) :

  • Coordinates referrals to campus services as required while the student is enrolled, with a special emphasis on retention and completion.
  • Ensures coordination of services for underserved populations in collaboration with diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility partners.

Data Coordination (10%) :

Enters and maintains accurate data in Workforce One with the MN Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).

Qualifications

Qualifications :

Minimum Education, Skills and Ability

  • Bachelor's degree in student services, education, nursing, or a closely related area;
  • At least years of experience in an education-related or student services-related field.
  • Understanding of nursing education pathways and pipelines, including community college and university-based nursing education programming and various routes students may take in their nursing career pathways.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the use of integrated software systems and Microsoft Office applications;
  • Demonstrated skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and the public;
  • Ability to work effectively, collegially, and collaboratively within an ethnic, cultural and socially diverse student population;
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to work with a committee or a team;
  • Excellence in providing and modeling quality customer service;
  • Must be able to exercise initiative and independent judgment in the performance of assigned duties.

Preferred Education, Skills, and Abilities

  • Master's degree in student services, education, nursing, or a closely related field;
  • Experience in a community college setting working with student admissions, student advisement, student support services, and / or student records
