GENERAL INFORMATION : The Department of Medical and Molecular Sciences is an evolving leader with respect to education, research, outreach, and practice.

We are a nimble department with a proven ability to refocus our curricula to design new academic programs, to recruit and hire faculty, to engage in new scholarships, build new research programs, and conduct outreach that impacts our communities.

In recent years, our undergraduate programs have expanded to include majors in Medical Laboratory Science (NAACLS accredited), Applied Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, and two pre-health majors in Medical Diagnostics, one of which uniquely prepares students to enter Physician Assistant programs.

This expansion has not only broadened our academic reach but has also created invaluable opportunities to bridge the gap between laboratory research and clinical application.

Our graduate programming has flourished with the introduction of three new professionally focused master's degree programs in addition to our established Ph.

D. program in Medical Sciences. Our unit actively fosters collaboration and forges strategic alliances with academic institutions, industry partners, community organizations, and clinical experts.

These initiatives have been instrumental in enhancing diversity, fostering inclusion, promoting access, and enriching experiential learning for our students in STEM.

Currently, an impressive 50% of MMSC faculty are engaged in sponsored projects, reflecting our commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and educational innovation.

We are deeply committed to advancing scientific knowledge, mentoring the next generation of laboratory scientists, and making a meaningful impact on the field of laboratory medicine and its applications in healthcare.
