Minimum 1+ years visually impaired experience required.
The Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) will work with students who have visual impairments or blindness to provide specialized instruction and support tailored to their individual needs.
The TVI will collaborate with students, families, and other members of the educational team to ensure that students have access to the resources and acmodations necessary to succeed in school and beyond.
Responsibilities :
- Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments in areas such as Braille literacy, orientation and mobility, adaptive technology, and independent living skills.
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the IEP team, including goals and objectives to address the unique needs of each student.
- Adapt and modify curriculum materials and teaching strategies to acmodate students' visual impairments and promote access to the general education curriculum.
- Assess students' functional vision and learning needs, and provide remendations for appropriate acmodations, assistive technology, and specialized services.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, and support staff to ensure that students receive prehensive and coordinated services across all educational settings.
- Provide consultation and support to families on strategies for promoting their child's independence and success at home and in the munity.
- Stay informed about current best practices and research in the field of visual impairment and participate in ongoing professional development activities.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Education for the Visually Impaired or related field.
- Valid state certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI).
- Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired, preferably in a school or educational setting.
- Knowledge of Braille literacy, orientation and mobility techniques, adaptive technology, and assessment tools for students with visual impairments.
- Strong munication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
