S. Navy's submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. Looking for a lifetime career? Apply today!Job Description The Materials Engineer position is an Advanced Level role in the Core Performance Analysis (CPA) unit in the Core Materials Engineering (CME) subdivision.

The candidate will perform technical evaluations and analyses and make decisions for all aspects of assigned tasks. Cognizant areas include the modeling, analyzing, documenting, and test planning for nuclear fuel and poison elements.

Work may include statistical assessments of data, finite element modeling of fuel system performance, nuclear materials evaluations, validation of test data, fleet support, nuclear safety analysis, and analysis of vendor procedures, systems, and results.

The ideal candidate will have curiosity and willingness to learn. Work will ultimately support the establishment and qualification of material limits and the evaluation of components to address emergent fleet issues.

  • Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience;
  • or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 2 years of relevant experience;

or Currently or previously NPE qualified; or CTE / ACRS and 1 year EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and 1 year as SRE.Preferred Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team of technical professionals across multiple disciplines
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of data analysis, statistics, computational modeling, and / or scripting (i.e. Python, Matlab, JMP, R, etc.)
  • Knowledge or experience in finite element modeling
  • Knowledge or experience in nuclear or thermal design
  • Knowledge or experience in manufacturing and inspection oversight
  • Knowledge or experience in irradiations testing
