DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Coordinate and manage a variety of engineering activities and personnel to identify, evaluate, manage, maintain, and rehabilitate sanitary sewer collection system sewer lines, manholes and laterals.
- Provide technical guidance, supervision and coordination of technical personnel and projects.
- Provide technical analysis and information to develop solutions to improve effectiveness and efficiency of analysis for repair / rehabilitation of the wastewater collection system.
- Performs on-site project inspections, investigations, discussions with Contractors, evaluate manufacturer's information, etc.
to determine solutions for challenging sanitary problems in a timely fashion.
- Evaluate proposals and make recommendations for projects and manage demonstration.
- Respond to inquiries by departments, consultants, agencies and public.
- Attend meetings and conferences. Coordinates special projects.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is generally physically comfortable. The position requires stooping, bending and / or lifting of items of up to 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier II Level.EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Project Management or a closely related field based on the responsibilities of the position.
Considerable knowledge of design or construction is required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Four years of experience in construction, construction inspection, design, landscape design, geotechnical, environmental or a closely related field are required.
Directly related professional architectural, construction or landscape design experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
NonePreference may be given to applicants who have experience with wastewater collection system analysis experience and an engineering degree.
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.

However, the Department may administer a skill assessment evaluation.
