Salary range : The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay at appointment as determined by appointment type and if applicable, rank and / or step.

The base pay range for this position is $139,500 - $253,600. Salary is negotiated annually. Additional compensation may be available if the position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan.

Position description

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery within the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego (http : / / ortho.

ucsd.edu / ) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. We are seeking a research scientist or clinician-scientist who has a cutting-edge, translational research program in musculoskeletal physiology and disease.

Responsibilities include directing a successful research program, engaging in classroom teaching and laboratory training of UCSD undergraduate, graduate, and medical students, and residents, and providing service to the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

The appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate's background and experience. Series will include 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding or 100% Ladder Rank.

As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities, and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates must have an MD or equivalent, an MD / PhD, or PhD in bioengineering, physiology, biology, or other orthopedic-related fields.

Candidates must have research expertise in basic science and clinical aspects of structure-function relationships in musculoskeletal tissues.

Candidates must have a career track record of cross-disciplinary research, including independent research funding, and publications related to their translational research program.

Candidates must have a demonstrated record of collaboration, particularly with other clinical Departments and faculty, and the ability to convey a clear vision of this.
