The Basilica of Saint Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Parish is a historic and vibrant faith community located in beautiful Key West, Florida.

Our parish is dedicated to fostering a rich liturgical life, spiritual growth, and a strong sense of community among our members.

We are seeking a talented and passionate Music Director to join our ministry team and enhance our worship experience through the gift of music.

The Music Director, Ministerial, will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the music program for all liturgical celebrations, including, but not limited to, weekend Masses, holy days, weddings, funerals, and other parish events.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of Catholic liturgical music, strong leadership skills, and the ability to inspire and engage the parish community through music.

The Music Director, Ministerial will perform all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision and values of the Roman Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Miami.

Primary Responsibilities :

Liturgical Planning : Collaborate with the pastor and liturgy committee to plan and select appropriate music for all liturgical celebrations.

Choir Direction : Recruit, train, and direct choir members, including adult, youth, and children's choirs.

Musical Leadership : Lead the congregation in singing and provide musical accompaniment using the organ, piano, or other instruments as needed.

Rehearsals : Schedule and conduct regular rehearsals for choirs and musicians to ensure high-quality music performance.

Special Events : Coordinate and provide music for weddings, funerals, and other special liturgical events.

Administrative Duties : Manage the music budget, maintain the music library, ensure compliance with copyright laws, and work with the Basilica School music program.

Community Engagement : Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment within the music ministry, encouraging parishioner participation and involvement.

Qualifications :

Education : Bachelor's degree in music, Liturgical Music, or a related field is preferred.

Experience : Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a church music director role or equivalent experience.

Skills : Proficiency in playing the organ, piano, and other relevant instruments. Strong vocal skills and the ability to lead and direct choirs.

Knowledge : In-depth understanding of Catholic liturgy, sacred music repertoire, and liturgical norms.

Personal Qualities : Strong interpersonal and communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to the mission and values of the Catholic Church.
