We are seeking a new team member to evaluate performance and assist in the design of prototype concepts and test hardware, using a combination of first-principles engineering and computational methods.

The evaluations performed by the selected candidate will quantify the performance of both new and existing component technologies with a goal of maintaining the U.

S. Navy's technical edge. In this role, the selected candidate will be empowered to enhance their design, analysis, and collaboration skills through challenging work assignments, mentoring, and in-house training programs.

The design and analysis results generated in this role will directly impact ongoing, highly visible technology development efforts.

Job responsibilities may include mechanical design, modeling and analysis, and documenting the results of thermal, structural, fluid, and / or material performance evaluations of system components and equipment.

Responsibilities may also include job automation, methods development, and integration with various testing communities and other engineering disciplines.

  • Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 6 years of relevant experience;
  • or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience;
  • or Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part I qualified; or EDO qualified and 2 years EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program;
  • or 3 years SRE qualified and Water Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and Fuel and Barrier Shift Supervisor (ECF only);

or SRE qualified and 6 years of experience. Previous experience with thermal and / or structural finite element analysis (FEA) using ABAQUS, ANSYS, or other commercially-available modeling tools.

Preferred Skills Strong problem solving, teaming, and communication skills. Fundamental understanding of engineering mechanics, fluids, heat transfer, and / or materials science.

Programming / scripting experience with Matlab, Python, and / or other languages is a plus. Previous experience with, or exposure to, commercially-available Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools is also a plus.
