Responsibilities
Position levels
Detailed analyses covering a wide range of difficult problems; salary range $125,200 - $211,300; responsible for completing and documenting work within budget and schedule; present work for peer reviews and provide peer review for others.
In addition to Engineer 3 responsibilities, provide technical leadership and oversight to an analysis team, interface with customers, engage in strategic planning, review and approve all technical work, and mentor early career staff; salary range $150,300 - $260,800.

Education / Experience
R&D Engineer 3 : Position requires a master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution and 6 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
R&D Engineer 4 : Position requires a master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution and 12 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Ph.D. may be preferred.

The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment
Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance
Q clearance; position will be cleared to this level. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter.
HRP
This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 CFR Part 712; includes ongoing drug and alcohol testing and periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
New-Employment Drug Test
The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
