This is a hybrid position primarily based in New York City, but it may require travel to locations outside of NYC. The role involves a combination of onsite work with schools and district teams across various locations, including those outside of NYC, as well as days at Urban Assembly’s central office in Manhattan’s Financial District, and work from home.

The Urban Assembly founded more than 20 small, career-themed high schools in New York City since 1997, pioneering career-connected education.

Its school design and support enabled the Urban Assembly to develop high-impact learning solutions for schools and districts nationwide.

ABOUT THE JOB

Reporting to the Director of Social and Emotional Learning, the Deputy Director of Social and Emotional Learning will serve as a key resource to the SEL Team in organizing resources, materials, and workflows.

This work aims to support school leaders and staff to ensure that all students experiencing our SEL programming develop the skills, values, and attitudes necessary to anchor their success in their school, homes and the larger community.

Key Responsibilities :

Supervise and Develop Team Members (50%)

Directly supervise and coach up to seven SEL Program Managers providing guidance on best practices in curriculum, instruction, data analysis and assessment.

Assist in designing and facilitating professional learning for the SEL Program Managers.

Support the onboarding of new team members and partner schools.

Assist in development and sustainment of professional learning communities for SEL instructional leads.

Support Social and Emotional Learning Program Initiatives (20%)

Support the SEL Director to use a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) model to support schools.

Develop systems and structures to ensure high quality implementation of SEL programs and approaches.

Implement SEL programs and approaches with fidelity to research and best practice.

Manage Data and Reporting (10%)

Utilize student social-emotional development data to enhance MTSS programming.

Utilize school culture and climate data to make improvements to SEL programming and approaches.

Use data from a variety of sources (Resilient Scholars Portal, Panorama, Attendance, Discipline, Academics etc.) to refine SEL programming and approaches within a MTSS framework.

Support Innovation and Knowledge Sharing (10%)

Identify promising practices within and across networks and facilitate ways to highlight and share these practices across both networks of schools.

Assist in Cross-Program Coordination (10%)

Work collaboratively with other teams to enact a shared vision for the UA model, execution and scaling.

Support cross functional collaboration with other teams.

Engage with committees and other organizational responsibilities as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS : Required :

Required :

5+ years of experience in SEL and / or K-12 education in urban areas.

Experience in direct supervisory capacity and developing staff, including performance evaluation.

Experience in coaching educators or school leaders.

Demonstrated facility with utilizing data to inform problem-solving and programmatic decisions.

Demonstrated ability to be well-organized, and experience with creating and implementing documentation systems.

Demonstrated ability to plan professional development sessions and associated tools, facilitate those sessions effectively, and process feedback toward continued improvement.

Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities with internal and external stakeholders.

Excellent project management skills.

Strong understanding of and commitment to the principles of positive youth development.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary of $97,375 - $107,625. The UA also offers an excellent benefits package;
