Position : Student Interns for Office for Civic Learning Location : River Forest, IL
Job Id : 1706 # of Openings : 0 Student Intern for Civic Learning Dominican University Description : The Student Intern for Civic Learning works with the Director of Civic Learning to help coordinate all the functions of the Civic Learning Office, and to serve as a liaison between students, faculty, various community agencies, and the Civic Learning program at DU.
Responsibilities : Civic Learning Office Tasks :
- Assist in the administrative tasks of running the Civic Learning Office, including providing clerical assistance to students, faculty, and community partners on DU Impact, the University’s electronic platform for community engagement.
- Assist in the updating of the Civic Learning web page, Facebook page, and EngageDU page.
- Attend weekly staff meeting.
- Prepare fliers, banners, and handouts for various Civic Learning events.
- Coordinate the Civic Learning EXPO (September / January)
- Assist in the coordination of the Community-based Learning placement of students with agencies.
- Follow-up with student time logs, student evaluations and agency evaluations.
- Maintain data from Community-based Learning forms and compile a list of Community-based Learning students and their placements.
- Coordinate the annual Thanksgiving Basket Food Drive with St. Joseph Services (November)
Serve as Liaison with Community Partners :
- Learn about the agency’s mission and work.
- Confirm the list of all student volunteers, times, email / phone information with the agency supervisor.
- Update agency information on an ongoing basis through visiting their websites and inputting data collected during agency visits
- Report any difficulties or problems to the Civic Learning Director.
Communicate with Community-based Learning Students :
- Work with students finding appropriate placements and getting them information about Community-based learning and the various agencies who are our community partners.
- Maintain communication with CBL students, informing them of getting started with their CBL placement, mid-term reminders and end-of-term forms and deadlines.
- Email CBL faculty with updates on students who face challenges with community engaged placement.
Requirements :
- About 10 hours per week, either on site or in office. Some weeks will demand more time; some less.
- Responsible; personable; ability to follow through; good communication skills; flexibility; good people skills; passion for service and social justice.
- Should possess some knowledge of and experience with some community service agencies.
- Students must interview with the Civic Learning Director and student interns for the position.
- Must be eligible for student employment
- Must be registered at least part time in a degree-seeking program at Dominican University
Compensation : This is a paid position work study or student employment stipend.
