Position Overview :
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Tax Manager with a strong background in Exploration & Production (E&P) within the public accounting industry .
This role will involve managing tax compliance, planning, and consulting for clients in the oil and gas sector, with a focus on upstream activities.
The Senior Tax Manager will collaborate with clients and internal teams to optimize tax strategies and ensure compliance with evolving regulatory requirements, particularly in the E&P space.
Key Responsibilities :
- Oversee and manage tax compliance and reporting for clients in the E&P sector, including federal, state, and local tax returns.
- Provide expert tax planning and consulting services related to exploration, production, and development activities.
- Analyze tax implications of capital investments, joint ventures, and transactions specific to E&P operations.
- Stay updated on industry-specific tax regulations, including tax credits, deductions, and incentives applicable to oil and gas companies.
- Lead tax audits, handle inquiries from tax authorities, and resolve complex tax issues.
- Collaborate with clients to develop tax-efficient structures and strategies for acquisitions, divestitures, and other E&P activities.
- Manage and mentor a team of tax professionals, providing guidance on industry best practices and technical tax matters.
- Support business development efforts by identifying opportunities to provide additional services to existing clients and attract new ones.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams (audit, advisory) to deliver comprehensive solutions to clients.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures and contribute to firm-wide tax initiatives.
Qualifications :
- CPA certification required; MST or JD / LLM is a plus.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of public accounting experience with a focus on tax services.
- Extensive experience working with clients in the Exploration & Production (E&P) sector.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws, particularly as they relate to the oil and gas industry.
- Proven ability to manage and lead a team, with a strong emphasis on mentorship and development.
- Excellent communication, client service, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficient in tax preparation and research software.
