Position Profile

The School of Psychology & Marriage and Family Therapy (SoPMFT) at Fuller Theological Seminary invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy.

This faculty appointment will be in the Department of Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT), which is comprised of MFT programs in Pasadena, California and Phoenix, Arizona, and a hybrid Doctor of Marriage and Family Therapy program (DMFT).

Fuller’s DMFT program is online with an in-person weekend immersive weekend every quarter. The program is designed to provide excellence in training in the Clinician-Consultant Training Model for mental health professionals who are trained to address the needs of individuals, couples, families, and organizations in a variety of clinical and organizational contexts such as churches and non-profit agencies.

Primary responsibilities of this position will be to serve as a core faculty member in the DMFT degree program while also maintaining an active research program.

This faculty member will teach courses in the DMFT program, advise DMFT students, on their dissertation projects, and meaningfully contribute to the overall development and growth of the program.

Courses will be taught online and faculty members are required to attend the quarterly, in-person weekends on one of the three Fuller campuses.

Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy or in a related field such as clinical psychology is required.
  • Licensed and demonstrated experience in clinical work and supervision.
  • Proven record of effective teaching at the graduate level.
  • Proven record of contribution to the field through research and publication, with ongoing research plans.
  • Commitment to thinking theologically / missiologically / psychologically about, teaching, and practicing in ways that speak to established and emerging cultures in the 21st century
  • The personal, academic, and / or professional development to effectively serve the culturally, ethnically, racially, and theologically diverse student body of the seminary.
  • Commitment to theological education in the service of the local and global church, to shaping leaders for the church’s mission and ministry, to the spiritual formation of students, and to supporting women and men in pastoral and other leadership positions.
  • Faith and lifestyle congruent with the mission of Fuller Theological Seminary as expressed in itsstatement of faith,community standards andinstitutional commitments.

Rank and Other Considerations

1. Tenure-track, initial three-year appointment.

2. Rank dependent on qualifications and experience.

3. Eligible to apply for Sabbatical.

4. Date position available : 1 January .
