Summary :
Under the general direction of the Lead Medical Care Coordinator, the Medical Care Specialist assists with the coordination and implementation of medical services provided to UAC.
The Medical Care Specialist uses sound medical and professional judgment and best practices to support the medical safety and well-being of UAC.
The Medical Care Specialist works collaboratively with Lead Medical Care Coordinator to ensure the medical, dental, mental health and physical needs of UAC are met in accordance with agency policy, TDFPS Minimum Standards, and ORR Policy.
Position Responsibilities :
- Actively participating in case staffing's and meetings and following up with recommendations.
- Compiling, preparing, submitting and maintaining accurate records, files, forms, statistics and additional information in accordance with agency policy, DFPS Minimum Standards and ORR Policy.
- Ensuring medical services are completed and documented in the UAC Portal within required timeframes and in accordance with agency DFPS Minimum Standards and ORR Policy.
- Completing and submitting reports within required timeframes.
- Providing health education and training for staff and UAC.
- Assisting with the maintenance of medical supply, prescription medication, and over-the-counter medication inventories.
- Providing oversight and monitoring of medication administration to UAC including, medication counts, label accuracy, and reporting of medication errors.
- Scheduling accompanying and / or providing transportation to medical appointments when needed.
- Ensuring medical services are provided in a manner that promotes best practices and facilitates the optimum delivery of quality trauma informed care to UAC.
- Completing other assigned duties in absence of another Medical Care Specialist or Lead Medical Care Coordinator.
- Other duties as assigned by Program Director.

Minimum Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications :
Education
o Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience
o Minimum one year employment experience in the medical field.
o Experience in the child welfare field preferred.
License and Credentials Medical training / education, program certification or registry required. Reliable transportation.
Valid driver license. Valid vehicle insurance.
Able to show proof of immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases transmitted by the respiratory route if working directly with unaccompanied children.
o Varicella : two doses of varicella vaccine (at least 4 weeks apart) OR born in the United States before 1980 with a reported history of chickenpox (verified by an adult present at the time of illness) OR titers indicating varicella immunity OR documentation from healthcare provider verifying previous infection.
o MMR : two doses of MMR vaccine (at least 4 weeks apart) OR titers indicating immunity to all three diseases
o DTaP or DTap : Complete primary vaccination series. If primary vaccination series completed in childhood, one DTaP dose in adulthood.
o Influenza : one dose annually during flu season.
Minimum Knowledge and Skills :
- Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Windows (Microsoft Word, Excel) and a variety of online database systems, managing files and records, designing forms and other office procedures and terminology.
- Strong analytical and organization skills and abilities.
- Must be able to read and interpret policy, procedures and standards.
- Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team.
- Must have good written and verbal skills.
- Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to remain calm and composed in crisis situations.
- Bilingual : Fluent in English / Spanish with regards to reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension of the spoken language.
