Bilingual School Psychologist
Job Summary :
The Albany City School District is seeking a qualified and dedicated Bilingual School Psychologist (English and Spanish) to join our team.
The School Psychologist will work collaboratively with students, families, teachers, and administrators to support students' academic, emotional, social, and behavioral development.
This role requires fluency in both English and Spanish to effectively municate with a diverse student population and their families.
The ideal candidate will possess expertise in conducting psychological assessments, creating intervention plans, and fostering a culturally responsive environment.
Key Responsibilities :
- Conduct prehensive psychological evaluations for students in both English and Spanish, assessing learning, emotional, and behavioral challenges.
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and intervention strategies for students with diverse needs.
- Provide direct counseling services in English and Spanish to students dealing with academic, emotional, or behavioral issues.
- Work closely with teachers, families, and administrators to support student success and create positive learning environments.
- Serve as an advocate for students, particularly English Language Learners (ELL), to ensure equitable access to educational resources.
- Collaborate with ELL and special education teams to develop interventions that address students language, learning, and behavioral needs.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary teams, including special education eligibility determinations and 504 planning.
- Conduct crisis intervention and counseling services when necessary.
- Utilize data to monitor student progress and adjust interventions accordingly.
- Facilitate munication between Spanish-speaking families and school staff to ensure full participation in their childs educational process.
- Provide professional development to staff on best practices for working with ELL students and those with diverse backgrounds.
Qualifications and Requirements :
To work as a School Psychologist in New York, the following licensure and certifications are required :
Education :
- A masters degree or higher in School Psychology from an accredited institution.
- pletion of a school psychology preparation program that is registered by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) or the equivalent.
Licensure :
- Must hold a valid New York State School Psychologist Certificate issued by the NYSED.
- If the candidate holds a license from another state, they may apply for reciprocity but must meet New Yorks requirements for certification.
Bilingual Proficiency :
- Fluency in both English and Spanish is required.
- Strong oral and written munication skills in both languages to work effectively with students, families, and staff.
Certification :
National certification through the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) as a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) is preferred but not required.
Experience :
- Experience working as a school psychologist, particularly in diverse or bilingual settings, is preferred.
- Experience working with English Language Learners (ELL) and multicultural student populations is a plus.
Skills and petencies :
- Knowledge of special education laws, particularly IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and Section 504.
- Expertise in conducting psychological assessments and implementing evidence-based interventions.
- Culturally responsive practices and a mitment to serving students from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills to work with a multidisciplinary team.
- Crisis management and counseling skills, with the ability to support students through various emotional and behavioral challenges.
