PositionSummary :

TheVascular Sonographer performs the daily clinical operations and awide variety of technical procedures including but not limited toperipheral vascular venous reflux and carotid ultrasound.

Entersexam data into CPACs system ensures completeness of exam andprepares exam for interpretation. Adheres to National PatientSafety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contactthis positionrequires.

Responsibilitiesof thePosition :

• Performsperipheral vascular venous reflux and carotid imaging in accordancewith lab protocols and standardpractices.
• AssistsPhysician during vein centerprocedures.
• Reviewsinpatient requisitions and prioritizes patient list in order ofseverity of illness special procedures special requests andequipment availability;

revises patient schedule as new proceduresare requested and circumstanceschange.

• Performsrequired quality controlchecks.
• Assuresthe procurement storage and routing of supplies for roomoperation.
• Ensuresreusable instruments are maintained and disinfected asrequired.
• Reviewspatient information and orders at the time of the procedure.Confirms type of exam and appropriate diagnosis; requestsclarification of order if necessary;

determines interpretingphysician.

• Downloadsexamination images and data into PACs system; enters findings intoPACs system upon completion ofexam.
• Mentorsand evaluates ultrasound students asrequired.
• Communicatestechnical and patient care related information according toestablished processes andtimelines.

Requirements

MinimumEducation :

• Highschool graduate or GED equivalency isrequired.
• Successfulcompletion of a CAAHEP approved school of ultrasound orcardiovascular technology or equivalentexperience.

Certifications / Licenses :

• Currentcertification by the American Registry of Diagnostic MedicalSonographers (ARDMS) in or Cardiovascular CredentialingInternational (CCI) or certification within one year of hiredate.
• BasicLife Support (BLS) certification obtained through the AmericanHeart Association (AHA) is required uponhire.
• Requirescritical thinking skills decisive judgment and the ability to workwith minimalsupervision.

MinimumWorkExperience :

• Knowledgeof diagnostic ultrasound principles concepts and methodologysufficient to perform high quality diagnosticstudies.
• Abilityto identify which images to include looking for differences betweenhealthy and pathologicalareas.
• Abilityto tailor the scope of an exam by adding additional image asdictated bypathology.
• Knowledgeof vascular crosssectional anatomy andpathophysiology.
• Knowledgeof mmode doppler and color flowcharacteristics.
• Abilityto recognize vascular structures viewed from variousangles.
• Knowledgeof ultrasound physics and instrumentation sufficient to identifyand eliminate artifact and optimizeimages.
• Abilityto operate maintain and troubleshoot cardiovascularequipment.
