Overview

Exciting opportunity to join the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s social work leadership team as the pediatric leader in the Jimmy Fund Clinic.

The Pediatric Social Work Manager functions as a clinical supervisor and staff manager, whose expertise, knowledge, clinical acumen, relational skill, and equanimity provide foundational support for pediatric clinical social work staff.

As a member of the multidisciplinary oncology team, the Manager, Division of Social Work, provides expert patient and family centered care through clinical psychosocial assessment and intervention, including crisis response, individual, couples, family, group interventions, and short-term bereavement support.

Located at Longwood Medical Center this position is full-time, 40 hours per week. Hybrid schedule of 4 days on-site and 1 day from home.

Responsibilities Responsible for clinical practice and programmatic development of the Psychosocial Oncology and Social Work Divisions.

Responsible for daily clinical operations in partnership with the Department Administrative Manager.Utilizing a staff leadership and high-performance team model, responsible for managing a team of clinical and clinical / programmatic social workers, ensuring clinical, programmatic, and administrative competency.

Responsible for representing social work leadership in Institutional or cross-institutional partnerships, committees, workgroups, initiatives, and events.

Candidate must be able to thrive in a fast paced, complex, academic medical environment where the social worker is a key, valued member of the multidisciplinary medical team.

Direct clinical responsibility for psychosocial assessment and intervention to address needs and concerns, crisis intervention, consultation, and ability to work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to reduce cancer-related distress and improve quality of life.

This ambulatory social work role provides in-person and telehealth services to patients and families (i.e., phone / Zoom video);

modalities include individual, family, and group work. ( Qualifications Minimum RequirementsMinimum Education : Master of Social WorkMinimum Experience : 8 years social work practice in health care, with a minimum of 2 years in oncology setting or with oncology patientsSupervisory experience required License / Certification / Registration : LICSW in MA (and state specific based on location).

Preferred RequirementsProgram or project experience preferred. Billingual a plus. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED : Expert knowledge of interventions for patients with psychosocial needs inclusive of mental health, behavioral health, emotional, relational, and other social needs.

Expert knowledge of various behavioral health interventions related to common issues and needs across the oncology continuum of care.

Expert knowledge of interdisciplinary teamwork and team dynamics, scope of key partnerships and interprofessional roles.

Expert knowledge of social work clinical psychosocial care concepts, practices, and policies with demonstrated ability to use them in varied situations.

Expert ability to facilitate understanding and resolution of problems related to patient / family interpersonal conflict, mental health and / or substance use concerns or disorders.

Expert ability to provide guidance / consultation to the team around complex patient management, including ethical issues.

Expert ability to facilitate patient and family participation in oncology care, and to recommend and contribute to team and / or family meetings.

Expert ability to make clinical decisions guided by experience, policies, consultation, and evidence-based practice. Expert ability to provide direction to the medical teams and actively facilitate team meetings related to care planning in the setting of disruptive / challenging patient / family behavior.

Expert ability to be self-directed while remaining open to feedback and collaboration with Division leadership. Expert ability to incorporate feedback into actionable behaviors for clinical growth and professional development and to be a role model for LCSW, LICSW I, LICSW II, and Senior Social Work roles.

Expert ability to understand and communicate information to interdisciplinary team, patients, families, and community partners (e.

g., agencies, professional organizations, etc.). Expert ability to be sensitive, responsive to, and advocate for the needs of diverse populations in the setting of serious illness;

including but not limited to diversity in gender identity, age, culture, race, religion, socioeconomic status, abilities, and sexual orientation.

Expert ability to adjust to change within a fast-paced working environment and to be a role model for LCSW, LICSW I, LICSW II and Senior Social Work roles.

Expert ability to integrate professional ethical principles (e.g., confidentiality, boundaries) and adhere to relevant professional, departmental, and organizational standards for patient and family care.

Expert ability to write clear and complete biopsychosocial assessments, progress notes, and other forms of documentation in the EMR, keeping with Divisional and Institutional policies.

Strong adherence to Social Work Division practice and administrative standards and policies (e.g., HIPAA, high-risk sign out, scheduling) and serve as a role model for all staff.

Highly skilled at leadership of small teams for projects or workgroups. Advanced organizational and systems thinking; this includes, but not limited to identification of practice / systems issues impacting quality provision of care, development of new modes of approaching systems / clinical practice problems.

Expert ability to address problems that are highly varied and complex with ability to incorporate interprofessional input and manage team-related stress.

Expert ability to facilitate de-briefing of staff and team members after trauma or crisis. Expert ability to contribute to profession, care, education and training through leadership, presentations, publications.

Expert ability to creatively adapt and respond to a rapidly changing healthcare environment. Expert ability to motivate and mentor staff at all levels of professional development.

Expert knowledge of current evidence based clinical and leadership best practices.Expert ability to provide coaching and feedback in a compassionate and direct manner that successfully inspires and promotes professional growth.
