Dekalb Alternative School is seeking a Plant Engineer who has the ability to perform all job duties and responsibilities.
The successful candidate must have the ability to detect defects in equipment and make proper repairs or adjustments accordingly.
They must also be able to interpret and work from schematic diagrams. The ideal candidate must work collaboratively with team members and must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Title : Engineer, Plant
Under general supervision, oversees entire plant operation of assigned facility; supervises custodial personnel and the related work to maintain the efficiency, cleanliness, safety, and operational systems of DeKalb County School District (DCSD) buildings.
Essential Functions :

- Opens and closes building securely; unlocks building and disarms the alarm.
- Reviews mechanical systems and inspects fire extinguishers.
- Performs routine maintenance and makes minor repairs on all mechanical systems and custodial equipment such as changing ballasts and exit lights, cleaning heating and air vents, cleaning roof drains, making plumbing repairs, repairing minor electrical fixtures, small painting projects, carpentry, and changing filters.
- Supervises custodial staff; develops and prepares schedules, workloads and work assignments.
- Assists the skilled trade technicians who work in the building; keeps up-to-date on building maintenance issues.
- Conducts building inspections each day to ensure cleanliness and safety of interior and exterior; performs cleaning tasks to ensure a clean building.
- Confirms all equipment is in working order.
- Completes and submits work orders (electronically) for maintenance services beyond his / her scope; submits monthly custodial supply orders.
- Organizes facility set-up and take-down for all meetings.
- Operates lawn equipment (lawn mower, edger, weed eater, hedge trimmers, and blower).
- Provides on-the-job training to custodial staff.
- Answers radio cell phone requests.
- Assists in setting up office spaces for employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE :
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Minimum of three years of lead custodial or closely related experience and demonstration of proficiency necessary to perform the duties for the position.
