Salary Range : $125,000 - $145,000

Overview

We are currently seeking to expand our capabilities with the addition of a Senior Manager of Corporate Strategy, Business Development & Market Insights within our Strategy & Growth group in Denver, CO.

The selected candidatefa will join a small team of investment professionals who work with and support Summit’s senior leadership, and regional and functional management teams in the development and execution of Summit’s organic and inorganic (acquisition-led), growth strategy.

The Corporate Strategy & Business Development team operates in a result-oriented, fast-paced and collegial environment, and is seeking individuals who are eager to grow, can manage their time independently, and demonstrate the ability to think and communicate in a structured fashion.

This employee will be encouraged to take an active role in strategic projects and within the acquisition sourcing and diligence processes to develop an investment thesis / business case and execute a strategic program or transaction.

This role will also be responsible for developing tools and processes to provide market insights to aide leaders in decision-making about acquisitions and strategic marketing pursuits.

The candidate must be willing to work in or relocate (w / assistance) to Denver, Colorado.

Responsibilities & Objectives

  • Support the Summit leadership team in the development and execution of Summit’s organic and acquisition-led growth strategy
  • Lead analytical assessments and facilitate strategic review of current operational and financial performance, market attractiveness and supply / demand dynamics, and performance / growth outlook to develop strategic action plans
  • Active role in development of Summit’s annual strategic planning process, including facilitation and leadership of regional and operational planning activities, strategic evaluation of growth initiatives, and developing broader enterprise strategy pursuits
  • Ownership of / leadership in strategic projects such as large internal capital investments, market expansion or entry initiatives, enterprise capabilities enhancement, etc.

  • Support of enterprise strategy pursuits, portfolio optimization, competitive positioning and transformational transactions or programs
  • Responsibility for design and initial development of market evaluation tool / process to define platform demand, consumer landscape, producer landscape to determine attractiveness for entry or investment
  • Leverage building materials and construction industry knowledge to build a comprehensive market intelligence platform / dashboard (in collaboration with IT) in order to guide enterprise-wide strategic investment decisions and organic growth initiatives
  • Drive identification of industry-thought leading data intelligence partnerships including critically evaluating & sourcing the most trustworthy and insightful data across end use segments (e.

g. residential, non-residential and public construction), competitive sets and regions. Lead the management of Summit’s secondary market data providers.

  • Leadership of M&A due diligence process and transaction negotiation including collaboration with Summit internal operating company management teams, third party consultants and seller stakeholders
  • Financial analysis, financial modeling, valuation development to support acquisitions in the high-growth heavy building materials sector
  • Exposure to, and evaluation of operational activities such as mining and production operations, commercial excellence endeavors and procurement opportunity to develop synergy view and execution plan
  • Presentation of acquisition opportunities to the Summit executive management team as well as the Summit Board of Directors.

Sr. Manager expected to be active participants in conversations regarding investment decisions.

  • Contribution to scenario planning, including acquisition and divestiture cases, and economic and capitalization outlook scenarios
  • Organization and development of internal management communications including growth workshops, acquisition prioritization and portfolio optimization
  • Career track potential for strong performers with the opportunity for promotion within corporate function(s) and possible path to a general management role

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from a top university with a record of top-tier achievement in work and education experiences
  • 5+ years’ experience in consulting, investment banking, or industry strategy roles and completion of formal training program preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking including the ability to understand and analyze business plans and develop projections in growing markets
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with others
  • Demonstrated project management capabilities; proactive, self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Excellent research capabilities and demonstrated ability to synthesize and summarize industry research
  • Ability to conduct rigorous financial modeling and analysis. Significant experience with Excel a must.
  • Familiarity with and the ability to analyze and interpret financial statements
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Familiarity and prior experience with mergers & acquisitions (sourcing, negotiation, structuring, execution and integration), finance, private equity, accounting a plus
  • Experience with leveraged buyout (LBO) models
