A prominent West Coast Law School in Los Angeles is looking for an Assistant Director for Career Development to provide career mentorship and counseling to students (both day and evenings students) within the law school career development office.
They will advise students in developing and implementing individualized career plans, conduct mock interviews, facilitate programs, and collect graduate employment data.
This position will also be responsible for the bulk of the reporting and reviewing of data for the American Bar Association (ABA), the National Association for Law Placement (NALP), and U.
S. News and World Report. Some portions of the year require a heavier focus on this reporting but year-round, this candidate will analyze data to help identify trends and develop strategies that can aid students and alumni in their job searches, improve office services, maximize job opportunities, and increase law school admissions.
They need to be comfortable working in excel, though not required to be highly technical with excel formulas. Their day to day responsibilities include student and graduate counseling on job searches, cover letter and resume review, coaching interviewing skills through mock interviews, and generally serving as a resource to students and graduates applying for field placements, clinics, public interest and government positions, law firm jobs, fellowships, and other employment and experiential learning opportunities.
This position requires someone that models high standards of professional, responsible, accountable, and ethical conduct.
Required Skills and Experience :
- Juris Doctorate degree or substantial (2+ years) direct legal experience may substitute for advanced degrees such as working within legal recruiting within Big Law at a management level -2+ years of experience working at a law firm, public interest organization, or in-house legal department.
- Excellent public speaking skills, communication and soft skills, with high empathy and patience to deal with students and sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Highly organize and analytical with high ability to plan organize, prioritize and implement projects to meet established deadlines and goals with high accuracy.
