Construction Materials Engineering Technician Entry-Level

S&ME is seeking an eager and dedicated full-time entry-level Construction Materials Engineering Technician to join our Construction Services team in Huntsville, Alabama .

About the Role :

This entry-level position is great for those looking to learn and grow in a hands-on environment. As a Construction Materials Engineering Technician , you will primarily work outdoors, contributing to projects and ensuring safety and integrity.

Your hard work will be rewarded as you see projects come to life and gain valuable experience.

  • Reviewing plans specifications and Documentation : Understand project requirements before fieldwork; accurately record observations and testing results related to construction materials.
  • Utilizing Metafield : Utilize field and laboratory information management systems efficiently for data organization.
  • Equipment : Maintain accuracy of field and laboratory tools to meet industry standards.
  • Special Inspection observations : Adhere to International Building Code (IBC) standards for testing and inspecting construction materials.
  • Communicate with stakeholders : Engage with management, contractors, and clients to relay project progress and address concerns.

About You :

  • You have a High School diploma / GED
  • You have 0-2 years of experience in construction testing / inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and / or asphalt materials
  • You have one(1) or more active certifications, a plus :
  • American Concrete Institute (ACI) : Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
  • International Code Council (ICC) : Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
  • DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete
  • You have effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
  • You have math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
  • You can proficiently complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device, using Microsoft Office and email

Are You Willing and Able to :

Perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provide Personal Protective Equipment such as :

  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough and uneven terrain
  • Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field / laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
  • Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
