RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Performs duties and functions in a safe and efficient manner following all safety rules and procedures.
- Operate forklift truck and overhead crane to move, load, and unload large bars, rings, or ring segments to or from welding table.
Lift smaller pieces from hand truck and manually load on to welding table.
- Align, block, and clamp pieces for welding and select proper weld wire, amps, etc.
- Cut, grind, and prepare weld joint bevels as required. Full penetration welds, grinding root passes, and the continual cleaning of welds required.
Sides, tops, and bottoms of weld joints must be ground smooth and flush to rectangular cross section.
Remove finished pieces from table as described in paragraph 1 above. Check dimensions of finished pieces using micrometer and tape measure.
Check dimension to verify sizes and roundness. Record dimensions on shop order as required.
Check dimensions of finished pieces using tape measure, scale, and ID radius template. Layout bars as required by shop orders or drawings.

- Perform forming and bending responsibilities to produce rings and ring segments as needed.
- Flatten, size, and resize to customer specifications. Trim, cut, bevel, and close.
- Debur, flatten, and layout bars as required by shop orders or drawings.
- Perform additional tests on weld joints as required by quality assurance.
- Complete form and bend welder report.
- Mark material with required identification and other required markings.
- Clean work area on daily basis. Clean under table. Remove debris and grinding grit as required. Keep work area in orderly condition.
KEY REQUIREMENTS :
- High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
- Minimum of two years of related experience required.
- Physical activity requires continuous standing.
- Requires occasional bending and twisting as well as carrying, lifting, pulling, and pushing pieces of steel at times weighing in excess of 100 pounds.
- Exposure to heat and welder flash and to dust and odor at chop saw.
- Basic / linear measurement skills such as ability to read micrometer and measuring tape.
- Basic math skills.
- Capable of passing a welder qualification test in the 1F (flat) position outlined in Section IX of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Code.
- Experience with operating forklift trucks and overhead cranes. Willingness and ability to be trained to operate other equipment.
- Knowledge of Company’s QA Manual, including the traceability system, inspection procedures, and steel identification marking procedures.
- Ability to read shop drawings.
