ABLE, Inc., standing for, A Brighter Living Experience, has been providing residential care to people with developmental disabilities within Houston County for over 30 years.
First named Houston County Group Homes, the 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation began as a grass roots effort by concerned parents who sought an alternative to sending their loved ones with disabilities to state institutions or keeping them out of the public eye.
ABLE focuses on enhancing the lives of the people it supports by promoting their uniqueness and building their self-esteem and independence in a safe and comfortable environment.

Job Summary :
The Registered Nurse, under the direction of the Director of Nursing, will assist with planning, coordinating, and managing the Intermediate Care facility and Waiver Care Programs within the community.
The Registered Nurse is responsible for the direction and evaluation of nursing care and services provided to people supported.
Qualifications & Skills :
Required :
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Valid state licensure as a Registered Nurse
- Outstanding ability to supervise, train, and evaluate support staff.
- Experience developing goals and outcomes for staff.
- Outstanding decision-making skills and response to high pressure situations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- Passion for and dedication to ABLE, Inc. mission
- Impactful communication skills
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills
- Complete integrity, honesty, and confidentiality
- Ability to work with time-sensitive issues.
Role Responsibilities and Essential Functions :
- Identifies with, shares in, and displays a commitment to the vision, mission, core values, and core virtues of ABLE, Inc.
- Collaborates with the Nursing Supervisor to create an environment of collective responsibility and accountability.
- Maintains policies and procedures that ensure compliance with all federal, state, local and ABLE, Inc. regulations.
Program Development and Communication :
- Demonstrates knowledge of histories, Coordinated Service and Support Plans, Individual Assessment / Risk Management Plans, and care plans of the people supported.
- Advocates for appropriate services.
- Arbitrates complaints and disputes concerning persons supported, their families or legal representative and / or other support services.
- Prepares and submits reports in a professional and timely manner to governmental agencies, fiscal intermediaries, and regulatory agencies, as required and directed.
- Analyzes referrals and coordinates the admit process.
- Proactively seeks out ways to create efficiencies in delivery of programming.
- Provides crisis intervention and emotional support.
- Effectively communicates program needs to the Director of Nursing.
- Participates in agency functions and fundraising events as needed.
- Assists with surveys and inspections performed by regulatory agencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Team Supervision and Support :
- Mentors, educates and supports team members to become the highly effective caregivers to our people supported.
- Embodies a coaching culture, ensuring each team member receives regular feedback and timely performance evaluations.
- Participates in the onboarding and support of the individuals serving the people supported.
- Plans and participates with the Nursing Supervisor in training related to programs, agencies, and in-service education.
- Oversees corrective action as necessary related to employee performance.
- Consults with HR when implementing disciplinary action.
- Assumes on-call support, if needed.
Leadership
- Partners with the Director of Nursing to build relationships across the organization and community to support the strategic goals.
- Positively represents ABLE, Inc. in the community to further its mission and vision.
Continuing Education :
- Maintains current certification in CPR, Positive Behavioral Supports (PBS), First Aid and CEU’s
- Attends conferences / workshops as needed to further enhance the skills necessary to provide exceptional care to the people supported.
