Software Engineer (50% DevOps, 50% Web Service Development) - Leading Blockchain / Web3 Company

Location : you can either work remotely or in the company's office in San Jose

The company is building infrastructure for the Web3 / Blockchain ecosystem. The company has about 30 employees and 20 engineers.

It is very well-funded, as the cryptocurrency it has created has been ranked as one of the most valuable cryptocurrencies.

The company is led by industry veterans with a track record of founding and building successful companies. Team members come from leading tech companies and collectively hold over a dozen patents in the space.

The compensation package includes :

• Salary up to $160k
• Equity
• Yearly bonuses of the company's cryptocurrency (which is one of the most valuable cryptos). The dollar value of this yearly bonus has ranged from 20% of salary to 5x salary, roughly averaging 75% of salary.

Job Responsibilities :

Web Service Development duties :

• Working with Node.js and React.
• You would ideally be about 50 / 50 front / backend. Depending on your preference, you could be anywhere from 100% front end to 100% backend.

DevOps duties :

• You would be on-call 24 hours / day, every other week (rotating it with 1 other person). The system is relatively stable, so on average you might get called once every 2-3 months.
• It would be about 30% AWS and 70% GCP.
• Working with Kubernetes.
• Lots of work with scaling, like going from 1 deployment to 50 deployments, focusing on automation, uptime, monitoring.
• 60-70% will be building new infrastructure, designs, deployments, and automations.
• 20% would be breaking and fixing things.
• 20% would be managing tech debt.

Qualifications : DevOps skills :

DevOps skills :

• Willing to be on-call 24x7 half the time (and expect to get a call every 2-3 months).
• Self-driven, with a passion for learning new things and getting things done.
• Ability to deal with ambiguity, and willingness to help debug difficult issues.
• At least 3 years (the more the better) of professional experience as a DevOps engineer.
• Proficient with containerization and orchestration technologies, particularly Docker and Kubernetes. Strong understanding of Kubernetes internals, including the scheduler, container runtime, and container network interface.
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar.
• Experience with AWS and / or GCP.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code.
• Proficient with scripting languages like Shell, Python, Perl, etc.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
• Eager to not just develop the first version of a solution, but also track down and fix bugs.

Web Service Development Skills :

• Understanding of microservices architecture and design principles.
• Familiarity with database technologies and SQL.
• Experience with web security practices and protocols.
• Proficient in JavaScript
• Experience with modern web service frameworks and technologies such as Node.js, React.js (past project could be an internal-facing admin site, not necessary user-facing services).
Nice to have :
• Pulumi.
• Pulumi.

• Fullstack development experience preferred.
