The Boston University Center on Emerging Infectious Diseases (CEID) seeks a Program Manager to support the Biothreats Emergence, Analysis, and Communications Network (BEACON), and will be responsible for helping with development, planning, strategy, programming, communication, implementation, and assessment of this interdisciplinary research program, working under the direction of the Director of CEID / BEACON and co-directors of BEACON.

The Program Manager will cultivate critical relationships, develop and maintain communication with our partners across government, non-governmental, and private sector organizations, as well as faculty and staff across departments and units at BU.

BEACON is a critical initiative dedicated to the rapid detection, analysis, and communication of emerging infectious diseases and biological threats globally.

This program manager role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to global public health efforts by supporting a groundbreaking program at the forefront of disease surveillance.

Responsibilities

Program Management : Manage all aspects of the BEACON program under the direction of the Program Director and Co-Directors.

This includes development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of BEACON activities.

Fundraising and Grant Writing : Assist in securing additional funding for BEACON through grant proposals and fundraising initiatives.

PM should feel comfortable in developing grant text within the context of the program and editing proposals for submission.

Experience in grant application and management is a major plus for the position.

  • Program Development : Assist BEACON leadership team in development of new initiatives, programs and partnerships. Some examples may include training programs, supplementary public health partnerships and data sharing agreements.
  • Contract Management : Oversee and manage all contracts related to BEACON's operations and collaborations with international partners, data sharing partners, government and funding agencies.
  • Funding Management : Develop and manage BEACON's budget, track expenses, and ensure compliance with funding guidelines.

The Program Manager will prepare monthly budgets and annual reports, and work with CEID's Director of Finance and Operations to align BEACON program budgets with larger center finances.

Communications & Outreach : Develop and implement communication strategies to raise awareness of BEACON and its activities among public health professionals, researchers, policymakers, and the general public.

The Program Manager will manage and coordinate workshops, develop outreach and educational materials. She / he will also manage development of content for the program website.

  • Relationship Management : Foster and maintain strong relationships with BEACON's network of collaborators, including public health agencies, research institutions, and technology partners.
  • Coordinate support staff and trainees : Help on board and coordinate activities new trainees and support staff that are working on BEACON into the program.

The Program Manager may oversee temporary support staff assigned to the program.

  • Data & Analytics : Assist in managing BEACON's data collection, analysis, and reporting processes.
  • Technology Support : Coordinate with the BEACON technical team to ensure the smooth operation of the program's software and data platforms.

Performance Monitoring & Evaluation : Track BEACON's progress towards achieving its goals and objectives, and develop strategies for continuous program improvement.

The Program Manager should expect they will develop documents and reports for internal and external stakeholders.

This position is grant funded and contingent on continued funding.

Required Skills

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Global Health, International Relations or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in program management, preferably within the global health, academic, private or public health sector.
  • Experience with grant writing and fundraising is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Comfort with working with a diverse and global team respectfully.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and project management software.
  • Experience with data analysis tools is a plus.
