About the Department of Teacher Education and Learning Sciences The Department of Teacher Education and Learning Sciences (TELS) comprises over 40 full-time faculty members, 300 undergraduate students, and 200 graduate students.

The department offers a Ph.D. in Teacher Education and Learning Sciences with specializations in Educational Equity; Educational Psychology;

Elementary Education; Learning, Design, and Technology; Literacy and English Language Arts Education; and Social Studies Education.

It awards Master’s degrees in Curriculum and Developmental Supervision, Educational Psychology, Elementary Education, Learning Design and Technology, New Literacies and Global Learning, and Special Education, as well as undergraduate degrees in Elementary Education (emphasizing mathematics and science) and Middle Grades English Language Arts and Social Studies Education.

Essential Job Duties The Department of Teacher Education and Learning Sciences in the College of Education at NC State University seeks an exceptional candidate to work in the area of Special Education and as the Curriculum Specialist of the Inclusive Postsecondary Education Program (IPSE).

This position is a Professional Track (non tenure track) appointment in Special Education and will be an integral part of the IPSE and the Graduate Program in Special Education.

This is an Open Rank position, with the rank determined based on candidates’ prior higher education experience; local, national, or international recognitions;

and prior accomplishments in the scholarship of teaching and learning that is connected to secondary or post-secondary education of students with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).

We are seeking a strong educator with significant experience and expertise in supporting students with IDD in secondary and / or postsecondary education.

The successful candidate will serve as the Curriculum Specialist in the new IPSE program at NC State. The Teaching Professor will work closely with the Program Director and will take on primary responsibilities for developing curriculum, providing professional development and technical assistance, and building capacity within the university as needed.

The position includes a teaching expectation of two courses per semester.

Responsibilities include :

  • Develop and refine curriculum tailored to the unique requirements of the Inclusive Postsecondary Education Program (IPSE), ensuring alignment with program objectives and academic standards.
  • Deliver high-quality instruction in university courses, tailored to meet the evolving needs and objectives of the IPSE program, fostering student engagement and academic excellence.
  • Facilitate professional development initiatives for faculty and staff within the IPSE program, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
  • Offer technical expertise and support to campus partners involved with the IPSE program, ensuring seamless integration and effective collaboration across academic departments.

Other Responsibilities Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience

  • Earned doctorate in Special Education, Disability Studies, or a closely related field
  • Minimum three years of experience providing direct support to young adults with IDD in : (a) secondary special education;

b) inclusive postsecondary education; work-based learning; or (d) a related service.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Experience designing curricula for young adults with IDD.
  • Demonstrated administrative, supervisory, and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to challenging long-held deficit learning / teaching paradigms in Special Education and Higher Education
  • Demonstrated capacity to work with young adults and families from culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching undergraduate and / or graduate courses
  • Experience designing and delivering online courses
  • Experience designing and delivering professional development for adult learners
  • Experience in program design and development
