Department overview
Facilities Management (FM) is responsible for the maintenance of buildings and grounds at the University of California San Diego. FM supports Construction Management services for Deferred Maintenance, Strategic Energy, Faculty Recruitment Lab Renovations, and non-Capital Improvement projects typically ranging up to $1M for renovation work and $5M for Maintenance and Energy projects. The Project Management team handles project programming, planning, schematic design, design development, construction documents, contract documents, bidding and award of contracts, construction inspections, and construction administration. FM\'s Project Management Unit aims to complete University construction projects on time, within budget, and to client satisfaction.
Position description
Test, modify, repair, install and alter campus electrical systems, equipment and components (600 volts and below) including power circuits to offices, labs and / or mechanical spaces, motors and motor controllers, watt-hour meters, lighting systems, light poles, control devices, transformers, panels, lightning arresters and conductors to ensure building systems and equipment operate properly. Respond to trouble calls. Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems using proper methods and test equipment. Install metering devices to measure power consumption. Repair and / or replace campus lighting systems (street, walkway, exterior building lighting). Read and interpret blueprints to diagnose electrical problems (short circuits, tripped breakers, overloads).
Assist in resolving questions regarding services performed. Coordinate equipment repairs and shutdowns with campus members to avoid disrupting research or services. Plan electrical construction jobs, order materials, and schedule work with customers to maintain or improve campus systems. Maintain awareness of electrical hazards and participate in safety and technical trainings. Maintain proficiency at the current job classification level and update knowledge through coursework, seminars, publications, and professional contacts. Maintain attendance, punctuality, and meet deadlines.

Hourly : $50.69
