The incumbent will be responsible for performing plumbing, pipefitting and other duties on complex plumbing systems. Responsibilities Works on all Kennedy Center sewage, water, gas, and fire suppression systems.
Also disassembles, installs, modifies, repairs, and maintains a wide variety of new and existing piping systems and equipment.
Installs, modifies, and repairs systems by locating and tapping main lines, setting up system routes, placing and cutting route openings, placing hangers for proper level and slope.
Installs and repairs valves, traps and unions needed for proper operation of various systems. Lays out, installs and insulates domestic water and waste lines completing proper routing, placement, slant, slope and jointing, sealing and testing for proper pressures, leak-free joints and operation.
Cuts, bends and threads pipe necessary to hook-up air, gas and water lines. Opens clogged drains and sewer lines, and repairs faucets.
Operates soldering equipment to join copper pipe of varying sizes. Requirements Conditions of Employment US Citizenship is required.
Suitable for Federal employment, determined by background investigation. Direct Deposit of pay is required. Selective Service registration required for male applicants, unless exempt.
Status candidates must meet time-in-grade (see Qualifications). Must be back flow certified at time of appointment. Physical Efforts and Working Conditions : Incumbent must be in good physical condition. Incumbent climbs ladders and must be able to climb stair towers of greater than 100 feet.
Accessing work sites often requires walking more than three miles throughout the day and stepping over objects. Work of this position involves pushing, pulling, or carrying of objects of varying sizes and shapes, weighing up to 75 pounds.
Incumbent works in confined areas such as attics, near ceilings, in utility corridors, etc. The incumbent works from various heights on ladders, lifts, and scaffolding.
Duties are performed both inside and outside in weather conditions varying from hot, humid summer heat to below freezing winter temperatures.
The incumbent is exposed to serious injury when working on energized circuits, adjacent to operating equipment, or from various heights.
May be exposed to burns, cuts, bruises, smoke and fumes, flying particles when grinding or cutting, and may suffer discomfort when wearing hoods, goggles, and other personal protective equipment (PPE).
The incumbent may be subject to cuts from hand powered tools and the danger from flying splinters and chips. The incumbent may be required to work a schedule that includes Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. He / she may also be required to work Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and other shifts on an overtime basis with little or no prior notice.
