Bruker’s Tribology, Stylus and Optical Metrology (TSOM) Business Unit, headquartered in San Jose, California, is the industry leader in multi-function Tribology test systems, Stylus Profilers, 3D Optical Microscopes and nano-scale resolution Optical Metrology systems with staff in Asia, Europe, and the United States. We have an expansive customer portfolio and serve industries ranging from Polymers & Plastics, Industrial Coatings, Precision Machining, Medical Devices, Automotive & Aerospace, and Semiconductors & Microelectronics.

Responsibilities

Lead and direct hardware engineering activities for Bruker’s Tribology, Stylus and Optical Metrology (TSOM) product lines. Manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists across systems engineering, technology development, electrical and mechanical engineering, and product verification & test. Oversee the full product development lifecycle—from advanced technology research and proof-of-concept design to specification development, design analysis, testing, characterization, sustaining engineering, and documentation.

Collaborate cross-functionally to define and execute short- and long-term product roadmap strategies. Drive interdepartmental coordination and ensure timely completion of projects. Recruit, develop, and evaluate engineering talent to maintain a high-performing team.

As a key member of TSOM’s Business Unit leadership team, this role partners closely with Product Marketing, Applications Development, Manufacturing, Customer Support, and Finance to shape and deliver our multi-year strategy. Reports to the Senior Director of Development and Engineering.

CORE FUNCTIONS

• Lead new product development and ensure efficient transition to manufacturing through disciplined product lifecycle management.
• Develop and manage innovative product roadmaps aligned with market needs and IP strategy to deliver differentiated solutions.
• Prioritize and execute sustaining engineering initiatives, including customer-specific enhancements, cost reduction, quality improvements, and support.
• Build and lead a world-class, multi-site engineering team; optimize internal and outsourced resources to meet operational and growth goals.
• Manage departmental resource planning and project-level budgets.
• Contribute to cross-functional business improvement initiatives supporting Bruker’s strategic objectives.
• Represent the business technically to senior management, customers, partners, and collaborators.
• Establish engineering policies and procedures aligned with business unit goals.

Qualifications

At Bruker, base salary is part of our total compensation. The estimated base salary range for this full-time position is between $149,400 and $266,000 provides an opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base salary for the role will depend on a several job-related factors, including, but not limited to education, training, experience, the geographic location of the successful candidate, skills, competencies, job-related knowledge and travel requirements for this position.
