Job Description

Summary :

Head Football Coach will plan, guide, and evaluate interscholastic athletic experiences designed to contribute to the physiological, psychological, educational, and social development of the participants.

In addition, the Head Football Coach is responsible for overseeing the entire athletic program for football and for supervising the activities of assistant football coaches.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following . Other duties may be assigned.

Administers all aspects of the competitive program of football.

Plans and implements the football athletic program at the school.

Communicates effectively the objectives of the athletic program to other coaches and participants, parents, media, and community.

Exercises good judgment and strategy with respect to game play.

Cooperates with coaches of other sports in the school.

Disciplines athletes when necessary.

Supervises the pre-season and in-season conditioning program.

Effectively supervises the screening procedures for large squads.

Organizes game plans effectively, as well as drill plans, etc.

Ensures the safety of all athletes and seeks medical help as needed.

Exercises good judgment in the care of equipment.

Supervises and approves the eligibility of football athletes.

Cooperates with morale-building groups, such as parent clubs, letterman clubs, etc.

Maintains professional relationships with all personnel connected with athletic events.

Assumes other responsibilities as directed.

Education / Experience :

Bachelor's Degree required

Language Ability :

Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as athletic policies and procedures, safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively in English before groups of students, parents, employees of IPS, or media personnel.

Math Ability :

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as measurements, proportions, percentages, and area. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry to situations dealing with a football program.

Reasoning Ability :

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates and Licenses :

A valid Indiana Teacher's license in Secondary Education required.

Supervisory Responsibilities :

  • Will supervise the assistant football coaches and any volunteers. Responsibilities include : interviewing, recommending hiring, and appraising the performance of football coaching staff;
  • planning, assigning, and directing work within the football program; training football staff; rewarding football staff; addressing complaints and resolving problems dealing with the football program;

and providing direction and guidance to the football coaches and staff in the NHS football program.

The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and / or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
