Job Summary

This lead RN promotes and establishes criteria for the delivery of quality nursing care. The lead RN educates patients on appropriate expectations and answers any questions they may have.

The lead RN consistently provides effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team, collaborating with other healthcare team members in response to patient and family needs for a variety of complex patients.

The lead RN seeks as well as provides feedback for improved clinical practice. As a lead registered nurse, this individual assumes a clinical leadership role, facilitating learning opportunities for staff, and seeks mentoring in this process.

Secondary duties include directly assisting the Practice Manager in leadership functions that include protocol development, staff training, timekeeping and other duties at the discretion of the Practice Manager.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Licensure or other certifications : Currently licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Georgia. Current BLS and ACLS certification or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Educational Requirements : Associated Degree.
  • Minimum Experience : Two (2) years registered nursing experience required.

  • Current Basic Life Support certification.

Essential Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Assesses the patient’s physical and emotional needs and provides appropriate care and intervention.
  • Performs the initial assessment upon patient’s arrival and develops a plan of care in collaboration with the physician.
  • Performs ongoing assessment and communicates assessment and plan of care through written documentation and verbal reports.
  • Documents nursing interventions and implements physician’s orders in a timely manner
  • Correctly administers and documents medication regime.
  • Identifies and implements infection control and safety practices.
  • Organizes patient care and demonstrates ability to set priorities by addressing acute needs first and implementing physicians’ orders within appropriate time frame.
  • Serves as clinical resource for MOA’s and other non-licensed staff.
  • Complies with network drills, CPR requirements, and any other network or health system requirements.
  • Complies a minimum of six hours continuing education within review year.
  • Serves as preceptor to nursing students or new nursing staff members or staff members needing to cross train to learn basic nursing duties.
  • Cross trains if necessary to perform basic radiological and laboratory functions.
  • Conducts at least one clinically related in-service for center staff during review year.
  • Assists Clinical Administrator in leadership related functions as directed by the Administrator.
  • Takes an active role in setting up in-services and training staff clinical protocols.
  • Takes a leadership role in creation, implementation, and adherence to clinical protocols.
  • Serves as primary backup in clinical administrator's absence.
  • Serves as initial point of contact for any patient problems, complaints or concerns related to their treatment plan.
  • Works closely with the practice manager to identify and resolve operational issues.
  • Acts as a facilitator in the practice for the coordination of tasks required to process patients through NGPG.
  • Helps to build and maintain staff morale by presenting a positive attitude, professional communication and respect for the providers, staff and management.
  • Acts rapidly and assumes leadership in acute or unusual situations according to NGPG departmental procedures.
  • Utilizes the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate the patient.
  • Recognizes, reports, and documents significant changes in the patient's condition in a timely and accurate manner. Reports changes in the patient's condition and / or inappropriate patient response to the physician promptly.
  • Prioritizes patient problems appropriately as evidenced by immediate attention to those with actual or potential urgency.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of documentation requirements for all procedures, medications and interventions.
  • Ensures all consents and documentation is in place prior to patient's procedure.
  • Maintains current skills checklist and assists with performing skills checklist on other employees, providing feedback to the practice manager.
  • Utilizes clinical expertise in assisting nursing staff, student and / or orientees with difficult or unusual patient situations.
  • Initiates active role in staff development during both one-on-one and group meetings.
  • Performs satisfactory in mock codes and other emergency preparedness drills or events.
  • Collaborates with Practice Manager and physicians concerning patient care and / or unit needs.
  • Supervises and ensures completion of task assigned to ancillary / support staff.
  • Serves in a unit leadership role, appropriately delegating tasks to ensure the patients needs are met timely and accurately.
  • Clearly and compassionately communicates information to the patient and the patient's family as appropriate.
