Job Description and Duties

This position is limited term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

This position is located at CC#26 Owens Valley in Bishop, CA.

Under the supervision of the Assistant Camp Commander, the Correctional Officer is responsible for the custody, supervision, security, health and welfare of the inmate population and care of equipment, as well as the security coverage of the camp facility and boundaries.

Actively support the vision and mission of CDCR by promoting a rehabilitative environment. Utilize skills consistent with CDCR to provide a safe environment.

The Correctional Officer shall conduct duties in a professional manner at all times consistent with California Code of Regulation 3391, Employee Conduct, and keep immediate supervisor informed of any unusual or emergency situations as they occur.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

This position requires overtime and travel.

Special Requirements

Candidates must be a permanent, full-time California Correctional Officer and have completed the Correctional Officer Apprenticeship Program to interview.

Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position.

Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board. Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing / evaluation thereafter.

Pursuant to the Public Health Orders ( and ) issued by the California Department of Public Health and the directive issued by the Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation (CDCR), all staff assigned to this post / position may be required to show evidence of full vaccination and booster for COVID-19, absent an approved reasonable medical or religious accommodation precluding them from vaccination.
