Job Title : Upper School Speech and Language Therapist

Reports to : Division Director and Assistant Division Director

Position Overview

Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) work on a team of three speech-language pathologists who will share responsibilities for supporting all Upper School Students.

You'll see a wide variety of special needs, including ADHD, developmental delays, behavioral challenges, anxiety, and other learning differences.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties :

  • Teaching responsibilities may vary depending on the needs of specific student and division needs
  • Work in collaboration with the division director or academic dean to create a speech and language program that meets the needs of the students
  • Implement individualized and differentiated language therapy plans
  • Assign and provide prompt feedback to classwork and homework
  • Supervise students when participating in division-wide and school-wide activities such as silence, assembly, community service, buddy class activities, and field trips
  • Flexibly and creatively implement therapeutic services using evidence-based practices
  • Conduct speech and language screenings as needed
  • Participate in and lead professional development activities for faculty and families; consult with fellow speech-language therapists as needed
  • Participate fully in the life of the school, including professional development, MMFS committees, weekly faculty meetings, regular supervisory meetings, and all school silence and staff meetings
  • Supervise student activities including study hall, student trips (including overnight trips), advisory, student clubs, etc.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, exempt ten-month position that follows the academic calendar. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7 : 45 a.

m. to 3 : 30 p.m. with a half hour paid lunch; faculty meetings occur every Wednesday from 3 : 30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand and will be scheduled in advance.

Travel

Travel between campuses is necessary on occasion for meetings, are scheduled with advanced notice, and are within walking distance from each other.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This job requires the ability to maintain the physical capacity required to navigate the school environment and to ensure the safety of the students.

The ability to open filing cabinets and bend, sit, or stand for long periods of time, is necessary (approximately fifty percent of the time).

Classroom locations vary based on student schedules; this position occasionally ascends / descends stairs to teach from different rooms in the building (one to five flights).

Requirements

Required Education & Experience

  • MA in Speech and Language; Licensed CCC-SLP required.
  • 3-5 direct experience; independent, charter school, or special education experience a plus
  • Strong oral and written communication with parents, children, and colleagues
  • Commitment to equity and justice, including knowledge and skills related to cultural competencies
  • The ability to create a classroom environment where students feel safe, supported, and challenged
  • Team-oriented with strong organizational and collaborative skills
  • Growth mindset and ability to use feedback to improve practice
  • Familiarity with new technologies; GSuite and Veracross a plus

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, this position's annual base salary range is $70,000 - $105,000.
