Job Title : Pet Center Technician

This is a part-time position averaging 15 - 20 hours per week with possible weekend shifts. The kennel tech is responsible for the supervision, control and management of daycare pets and ensuring the safety of the playgroup.
The kennel tech will also be assigned care of other animals boarding at the facility. Additionally, the kennel tech is responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of the playrooms, play yards, as well as other areas of the facility as assigned.
The kennel tech works under the supervision of the kennel manager and reports to the kennel manager and Community Director.
KENNEL TECH JOB RESPONSIBLITIES :
- Interact with pets in playgroups using appropriate toys and tools to ensure safe levels of play and minimizing stress levels of all pets in playgroup.
- Maintain visual observation of pets at all times and spread attention and play among all pets in the playgroup.
- Control level of play by following pet management and control procedures and instructions provided by the kennel manager and trainer.
- Use proper pet handling techniques including use of kennel leads to transfer pets.
- Use proper pet introduction procedures.
- Use appropriate praise and pet redirection methods.
- Ensure you know all pets in the playgroup and can properly identify them. If not, request assistance from management.
- Use paper id collars to identify pets that are similar in appearance.
- Watch all new pets carefully and immediately consult with the Kennel Manager if you have concerns. For all pets in the playgroup;
report any unusual behavior, or eliminations and injuries to the Manager immediately.
- Review special needs list on Gingr and manage pets as instructed.
- Record all incidents in Gingr
- Ensure staff that relieve you for break or shift change know all pets in group, the special needs pet status and any unusual behaviors or concerns you have been managing during your shift.
If the next shift staff is not available, update the Manager before leaving.
- Plan how pets will be put in enclosures for meals in accordance to procedure. Consult the Manager if you have concerns on being able to put all pets away properly in your playroom.
- Review information on the whiteboard in the hall and in the playroom before the start of shift and comply with instructions.
Review pet profiles of any pet you do not know prior to starting shift.
- Complete pet incident reports timely when required. If you are not sure whether a report is required, check with Kennel Manager
- Complete maintenance or repair reports as needed. Immediately report any out of stock items to Manager
Boarding Pet Duties
- Maintain each pet's room to ensure that the pet has water and the room is clean and dry.
- Ensure that the potty area and room areas are clean at the end of day.
Floater and Cleaning Duties
- Complete floater duties as described in Floater Duties Checklist. Turn in a completed checklist at the end of shift. Advise management of any incomplete duties that will need attention from the overnight staff.
- Complete cleaning duties as assigned and indicate proper completion by signing the Monthly Cleaning Checklist.
- Maintenance potty areas in accordance with procedures.
- Report supplies needed to the Manager prior to running completely out of item.
- Other duties as assigned
- Complete "Knowing Dogs 101 & 201" training
SKILLS REQUIRED :
- High school graduate or GED preferred
- Good oral communication skills
- Previous work experience demonstrating dependability
- Previous experience providing animal care (personal or job related)
- Self-motivated, independent worker
- Proven ability to follow instructions and learn new things
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Demonstrated flexibility and proven coping skills
