Position Overview : The Tax Director will be responsible for overseeing the tax department, managing client relationships, and providing strategic tax planning and compliance services.
This role requires extensive tax expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to drive the firm's tax practice forward.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of tax regulations, exceptional client service abilities, and a proven track record of managing a team in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead and manage the tax department, including supervising, mentoring, and developing staff.
- Oversee the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, businesses, and other entities.
- Provide strategic tax planning and advisory services to clients, identifying tax-saving opportunities and ensuring compliance with tax laws.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for tax-related matters.
- Conduct research and stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations, ensuring the firm's compliance and advising clients on potential impacts.
- Manage tax audits and controversies, representing clients before tax authorities as needed.
- Collaborate with other departments within the firm to provide integrated services to clients.
- Participate in business development activities, including identifying new opportunities and expanding the firm's client base.
- Develop and implement tax policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the tax department.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. A Master's degree in Taxation or a related field is preferred.
- CPA certification is required.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in public accounting with a focus on tax, including significant experience in a managerial or leadership role.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop staff.
- Exceptional client service and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Proficient in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
