Position Overview

The Field Service Engineer works closely with Mechanical Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Field Superintendents to support field installations, inspections, runoffs, and startup procedures. This role also assists in developing construction drawings and designs for the fabrication and installation of industrial process equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as a key link between the field and internal teams (engineering, purchasing, manufacturing) to ensure clear communication and timely issue resolution.
  • Identify and implement quick, effective solutions that maximize project labor efficiency.
  • Support Purchasing by coordinating local fabrication contracts (e.g., machine shops, welding, gases, and hardware suppliers) and serving as the primary point of contact for supplier needs.
  • Order and procure fabricated parts, consumables, or purchased components as directed by the Project Engineer, Field Superintendent, or Project Manager, following the field procurement process.
  • Coordinate delivery and sequencing of parts to job sites and specific work areas; perform field inventories and quality checks prior to installation.
  • Partner with field supervisors to ensure efficient labor planning and smooth delivery of components.
  • Assist supervisors in resolving on-site construction issues.
  • Manage, update, and distribute the most current installation drawings to field supervisors and crews.
  • Support on-site safety monitoring and daily reporting; serve as an extra set of eyes and ears during installation.
  • Collaborate with installation teams to coordinate mechanical and controls commissioning activities, ensuring successful equipment acceptance.

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Inventor (2015 or higher); SolidWorks experience may substitute for Inventor.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical design and mechanisms, including pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to design equipment based on project specifications and scope.
  • Experience integrating mechanical equipment with controls / electrical systems (functions, sequence of operations, cycle times, and control devices).
  • Knowledge of fabrication processes, including part fabrication, welding, and assembly.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and engineering formulas.
  • Willingness to travel 8090% of the time for field work (measurements, installation, start-up, debugging).
  • When not on-site, ability to work remotely and travel quarterly to the GENESYS home office in Kansas City, MO, for training and check-ins.
  • Valid U.S. passport (or ability to obtain one).
  • Education

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology or 5+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
