Location : Onsite in office located in Denver, CO (RiNO District)

Reports To : EVP, Product Delivery, North America

The VP of Engineering, reports to the EVP of Product Delivery, and is responsible for design decisions related to a portfolio of datacenter projects which can include : new construction, phased expansion, retrofits and upgrades, acquisition conversions, mechanical equipment selections, and the development of design standards, processes and procedures.

This role will develop long-term business strategies aligned with key Prime stakeholders to manage the relationship and output of key design partners and equipment suppliers for their assigned projects.

Responsibilities :

• Leads and manages innovation & development, master planning / concept design, standards and technical review.
• Leads regional design team partners to adopt and accommodate standards and best practices for design.
• Collaborates with construction and procurement teams to effectively procure, install, and commission design solutions.
• Collaborates with operations teams to ensure design standards and best practices with their requirements.
• Support Site Operations to troubleshoot / tune existing systems.
• Develops a roadmap for innovation, investigation of new products and services, and how they will be assimilated into standards.
• Develops PDC’s designs and core design philosophies such as reliability, safety, sustainability, and cost-efficiency with internal and external customers and suppliers.
• Provides master planning / concept designs as part of PDC’s investment planning, review, and approval process.
• Oversees detailed technical review process with regional design leads to assure that project designs meet the design standards and business case requirements.
• Opines on proposed deviations to the standards or the requirements.
• Collaborates closely cross-functionally Construction, Procurement, Operations, Sales, Product, Marketing, Corporate Development, etc to represent and develop all data center design requirements.
• Work closely with Construction, Procurement, and Operations to find a balance between cost effective solutions & operational sustainability.
• Meets with customers to understand and incorporate requirements.
• Lead mechanical design efforts for deployment of new data centers, ensuring corporate standards and customer requirements are met.
• Interface and lead mechanical design consultants and contractors on a per-project basis.
• Coordinate review process of engineering studies of all types. Visit job sites for field investigations and coordination meetings.
• Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for technical reviews including engineering studies / analyses.
• Lead all aspects of the review process of engineering studies.
• Provide oversight and review of project level design plans, equipment, and system submittals. Management of internal and external design teams and design consultants.
• Coordinate heavily with internal teams across all areas to ensure products delivered into operation are streamlined and optimized to meet the needs of the business across all functions.
• Assist in development and maintenance of sustainability benchmarking and innovation to incorporate sustainable technology in a cost-effective manner.

Lead project design team meetings and ensure product constructed meets engineering standards and specifications.

• Utilize engineering analysis programs and professional judgment to analyse the following :
• Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) studies
• Psychrometric chart evaluation
• ASHRAE extreme annual design day temperatures and relative impact to supply air temperatures
• Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) calculations.
• Participation in FWT of critical equipment.
• Review consultants' engineering calculations, run independent engineering and cost analysis.
• Research new designs, materials, and construction methods for data center HVAC equipment and related components.
• Travel to data center sites for engineering studies, mechanical systems audits, startup testing, and full commissioning, as required.
• Respond on an as-needed basis to emergencies.
