This position will report through the Maintenance and Engineering organization at the Grifols site in Clayton, NC. The position will support the Engineering team for the plasma Sterilized Filling Facility (SFF).
Initial responsibilities will be for start-up and commissioning of PLC based equipment with DeltaV interface. Examples of equipment packages include Autoclaves, Chromatography, Ultra-filtration, Aseptic Filling, Vial Assembly, Staubli robots, WFI Stills, Clean Steam Generators and others.
Position will also become system administrator for process DeltaV. Position will be responsible for approving Functional Requirement Specification documents and Software Design Descriptions.
As the project transitions to commercial operation, this position will remain with the building and take on automation support for GMP systems as part of the Maintenance and Engineering organization.
This position level will be determined by the successful candidate’s education, experience, and specific knowledge.
Position Overview
The Automation Engineer I is an entry-level professional responsible for using technology to improve and streamline a manufacturing process through automation.
Depending on their specific assignment, this person provides automation support for projects or within a specific area, or provides validation support for automation projects.
The Automation Engineer I can also integrate into a project team. The incumbent is knowledgeable in Automation with the capability to learn specific control systems, instrumentation, process, utilities, or qualification testing.
He / she supports meeting customer needs and business goals. In addition, he / she will collaborate with other automation engineers.
Primary Responsibilities
- Project Support - Work within a project team, teamwork, schedule adherence, execution, start-up, commissioning, owner interaction, qualifications.
- Provide support in designated area / field. Depending on assignment, this may be DCS, PLC, SCADA, BAS, Validation, Manufacturing, and Utilities Areas.
- Communication - Responsible for providing excellent communications (verbal / written) within area of responsibility.
- Use / demonstrate problem-solving skills to best support and meet the needs within area of responsibility.
- Promote a collaborative and cooperative environment which embraces the ability to work effectively within teams.
- Capable of adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GxP) - Compliance, Change Control, Quality Oversight, Validation.
- After hours support may be required.
- Additional duties as assigned / required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
System Technical Skills :
- Emerson DeltaV DCS - Design, Configuration, Troubleshooting, Maintenance, Administration.
- Allen Bradley PLC / HMI - Design, Configuration, Troubleshooting, Maintenance, Administration.
- Instrumentation - Design, Specifying, Troubleshooting.
- Qualification / Validation - DeltaV, PLC's, Optel Vision systems, Serialization, Packaging Equipment.
Process Technical Skills :
- GxP Understanding - Compliance, Change Control, Quality Oversight, Validation.
- Manufacturing - Fractionation, Purification, CIP, UF, Process, Chromatography.
- Sterile Filling - Filling, Autoclave, Sterilization Tunnels, Freeze Drying, Pasteurizer, Glass Washer.
Requirements by Level :
- Master’s Degree - Engineering, Automation, Computer, Industrial, Manufacturing, Related and 0 years of direct experience in automation engineering and / or validation.
- Bachelor’s degree - Engineering, Automation, Computer, Industrial, Manufacturing, Related and 2 years of direct experience in automation engineering and / or validation.
Work is performed in an office and a laboratory / manufacturing environment. Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms.
Personal protective equipment required such as protective eyewear, garments, and gloves.
