Custodian

This position is considered safety sensitive under the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act. Therefore, those applicants testing positive for marijuana will not be hired even when in possession of a valid medical marijuana license.

Maintain a clean, healthy, and safe environment in facilities that C.A.A. occupies. The care, cleanliness, and upkeep of each work site are the responsibility of the custodian.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Sweeping, dusting, and dust mopping.
• Wet mopping daily in the required area of responsibility.
• Stripping, waxing, and buffing floors.
• Cleaning walls windows, lavatory fixtures, drinking fountains, furniture, stairs, doors, and other building fixtures. Empty all trash at least twice daily.
• Maintains lawns, trees, shrubs, and flower beds.
• Sets up, rearranges, and / or takes down furniture and equipment as needed.
• Responsible for preventative maintenance and care of equipment such as buffers, lawnmowers, weed eaters, etc.
• Performs minor building preventative maintenance tasks such as lights, bulbs, filters paint touch­, etc.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor to accomplish the Agency Mission.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Conduct work in a moderate-paced environment. Majority of work centers on building upkeep on outside and yard maintenance to provide a safe, comfortable environment. Upper body strength to lift? 5 pounds and carry 100 feet and move heavy loads using material handling equipment. Lower body strength to stand / walk throughout the workday. Climb various ladders somewhat frequently relative to other tasks. Ability to frequently stoop, kneel and reach. Environmental demands include moderate exposure to weather conditions and various cleaning chemicals, including paint.

The Community Action Agency of OKC / Oklahoma County was established in 1966, and initially was financed by the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, which launched the nation’s “War on Poverty.” Eventually the funding was consolidated into the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG). The Community Services division was implemented early on, serving low-income residents of Oklahoma County. Early programs included implementing the Food Stamp program and offering a nutrition program for seniors at meal centers.Today the division has greatly expanded to offer legal assistance; tax assistance; summer youth programs; senior transportation to meal sites, medical appointments, and shopping; rent and mortgage assistance; and other community needs.HEAD STARTThe Agency’s first Head Start center opened its doors to 39 families in 1965. Within two years, nine new centers and 575 children entered Head Start in Oklahoma County. Today we have 26 Head Start classrooms in 15 public schools, and 98 Head Start classrooms total providing services to thousands of children in Oklahoma County.
