The co-op program recruits students from colleges to give them an opportunity to work in a professional environment related to their field of study.
Position Summary / Details :
These engineering co-op positions will report to Energy Supply engineers and support a variety of technical projects ranging in complexity, scope, and time spans.
This position is a part of the engineering team for the Outage & Project Management (O&PM) department. The O&PM team is comprised of construction supervisors, engineers, and project managers that deliver capital projects from concept through design, construction, startup, and commissioning for a portfolio of projects in Energy Supply.
Projects range from replacements, upgrades, and expansion of existing equipment and systems at our power stations and solar sites.
Accountabilities :
- Review and analyze required codes, standards, and regulations to support design efforts.
- Review engineering documents, including, but not limited to design drawings, reports, and specifications.
- Perform walkdowns and field engineering activities to support design and construction efforts.
- Monitor on-going construction activities to verify conformance with design drawings.
Physical Location of Co-op : Students must be willing and able to work in any of our services areas and power stations including :
- Big Bend Power Station in Apollo Beach, FL
- Bayside Power Station
- Polk Power Station
Working Conditions : Power Station / Service Areas, hands-on. Willing and able to work at heights on raised walkways, etc.
and work in industrial environments which can be dirty.
QUALIFICATIONS : Education :
Education :
The successful applicant should be enrolled in an accredited university as a college undergraduate or a graduate level post-secondary educational program in a related discipline.
Co-Op Requirements :
- To qualify as a co-op student, enrollment in the university’s co-op program (proof of enrollment required); if not eligible for co-op program (or program unavailable), the student will be considered an intern.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.
Currently pursuing an Engineering Degree
Preferred / Related Discipline : Civil, Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical
Year in School : Junior or Senior, or Graduate Student
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Proficiency in MS Office suite of programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from colleagues, vendors, and the general public.
- Ability to use relevant mathematical principles associated with science and engineering applications.
- Ability to apply principes of logical scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
Preferred Availability : Full time 40 hours per week will be within a Monday Friday typically within a 7 : 00AM 6 : 00PM schedule.
