REPORTS TO : Superintendent
TERMS :
work days; *Salary negotiable per experience.
QUALIFICATIONS :
1. High School diploma or equivalent and three years of relevant experience in school nutrition
programs or other commercial food service programs required.
2. Or Associate Degree in Food Service and at least two years of relevant experience in school
nutrition or other commercial food service programs preferred.
3. Or Bachelor Degree in Food Service Management or related field and at least two years of relevant experience in school nutrition or other commercial food service programs preferred.
4. Previous experience with school lunch programs preferred.
5. Knowledge of sanitation and Public Health requirements.
6. Experience in supervising a school or other institutional food service program preferred.
7. Must maintain and / or meet the training standards of the United Stated Department of
Agriculture and the Michigan Department of Education.
8. Must understand the current USDA, M.D.E., Local, State and Federal food preparation policies, procedures, regulations, guidelines and laws.
9. Must possess the ability to communicate clearly and follow directions both orally and in writing with other school districts, various government entities, administrators, vendors, students, staff and the general public.
10. Must have the ability to manage all aspects of the school food service budget and audit process.
11. Must have the ability to effectively supervise and evaluate food service personnel.
12. Must have the ability to effectively utilize computers and the school management information system and other related programs / apps.
13. Grant writing experience preferred.
14. Must have a valid Michigan drivers license.
15. Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds, stand for prolonged periods, stoop, kneel, see, hear, read, write, speak and lead others in a positive manner.
16. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Develop the food service program (breakfast, lunch, special events) as a practical application of sound nutrition and as a means for improving health and nutrition of students and staff.
2. Plans and attends professional development training programs and regular staff meetings.
3. Plans and organizes the monthly, weekly, and daily menu for all student and staff meals in accordance with District policy, USDA, MDE, local, State and Federal laws and regulations.
4. Responsible for the routine care and maintenance of food service equipment.
5. Maintains high standards of sanitation and safety in all phases of the school food service
program.
6. Has a working knowledge of all local and state health laws and regulations.
7. Manages the collection and dissemination of data and manages the Free / Reduced lunch process in accordance with all District, State and Federal guidelines.
8. Prepares and manages any summer food service programs.
9. Keeps an inventory of food, beverages, supplies, materials and equipment District-wide.
10. Communicates with vendors regarding filled and unfilled orders, pricing, delivery, etc.
11. Complies with laws and procedures related to the storage and disposal of trash and waste, including hazardous materials.
12. Complies with all guidelines and laws regarding food service health, safety, sanitation and all OSHA / MIOSHA standards.
13. Works in other foods service positions as needed if a substitute cant be secured or when additional help is needed.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.
