We are currently seeking a Paralegal I for a 6-month assignment in the Real Estate Branch.
Duties / Responsibilities :
The Paralegal will assist with discovery matters, trial preparation, document organization, and preparation of administrative records for CEQA and non-CEQA challenges.
The Paralegal will also assist with preparation of legal memoranda, correspondence, and transactional documents.
- Responsibilities also include conducting document analysis pertaining to CEQA challenges brought against the City for additional evidentiary proof and / or factual clarification;
- conducting research on legal database systems such as CityLaw, Lexis, Data Tree and other departmental database systems including Zone Information & Map Access System (ZIMAS) and Plan Cast Tracking System (PCTS);
- conducting research on various City Department sites, such as the Council File Index and Planning Department website; coordinating with City departments;
- obtaining Grant Deeds from the Los Angeles County Recorder’s Office; obtaining Certified Corporate records, and other documents from the Secretary of State’s Office;
- obtaining certified City documents; preparing transcripts, calculating and estimating costs for record preparation; compiling and organizing voluminous files;
Requirements :
Paralegal Certificate;
This position requires a person who is self-motivated, can learn quickly, exercise independent judgment and work with minimum supervision.
The applicant must have good organizational skills, be able to work well with other employees of this office and personnel from other agencies and from the offices of opposing counsel.
Applicants should be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel. Must be able to lift boxes (up to 25 lbs.) containing case files;
The hours for this position are from 8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Reliable attendance and punctuality are mandatory.
Location : Los Angeles, CA 90012
Must report to location daily. No remote work. Parking is not provided.
