Job Description

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

Instruct acting lab and theater history classes. Prepare students to perform a minimum of three productions per year. Work with and assist directors for productions, programs, and activities, administrative tasks correctly and on time;

QUALIFICATIONS : Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree Preferred. Must hold valid Indiana Teacher's License 7-12 in Speech and Drama or Speech Communications and Theater, or Theater Arts.

Dual license preferred.

EXPERIENCE : Previous experience working with middle and high school students in an educational setting and theater work-related experience required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Teach staging skills to all students.
  • Teach directing skills to students in advanced level classes.
  • Facilitate student participation in competitive and cooperative community artistic events.
  • Demonstrate vocal and body expression to teach acting styles, character development, and personality projection.
  • Demonstrate engaging instruction in the classroom.
  • Observe and evaluate students' learning through rubric-based authentic assessment, and facilitate differentiated instruction when needed.
  • Participate effectively in recruiting.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date online records, projects, calendars, journals, and portfolios, and submit required reports promptly.
  • Produce and direct plays for school and public performances.
  • Facilitate and organize opportunities for performance of student work at school and in the community often with the school year.
  • Accept responsibilities for supervision and direction of scheduled student performances and rehearsals.
  • Possess effective communication skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work continually with other teachers to develop and organize a project-based, team-taught integrated humanities / arts curriculum that meets state, district and school standards.
  • Supervise classroom aides, visiting artists, and volunteers effectively, when appropriate.
  • Attend and participate in required in-service activities and assist in planning and conducting such activities.
  • Communicate electronically with students, parents, and other staff members concerning student academic progress, attendance, and behavior.
  • Participate in all meetings called by supervisor(s), consistent with the current employer / employee agreement.
  • Conduct classes in acting, general theater (theater history / theater appreciation), stagecraft, theatrical design, stage management / the business of theater.
  • Oversee internships when appropriate.
  • Volunteer time after school to work with students in the learning center or in the classroom, when necessary, or when requested by supervisor progress, discipline concerns, and offers learning opportunities for parents.
  • Participates in District and City student art contests and is responsible for displaying student art in the school, Central Office, and community.
  • Makes accommodations, as required, for students with disabilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : None.

LANGUAGE SKILLS : Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS : Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY : Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS : Valid Indiana Teacher's License in Art.
