Overview

Consultant, Corporate Reputation Communications — APCO

APCO has an immediate opening for a Consultant to join our Corporate Reputation practice. This is an integrated role, working across traditional media, social media, executive visibility and issues and reputation management for clients across industries, including finance, retail / consumer packaged goods, and education. As a member of the Corporate Reputation practice, our teams work to build our clients' reputations through targeted communications, while protecting reputation through crisis and issues management. Our experts work with clients to navigate complex and rapidly changing environments. We develop strategies that anticipate potential issues and mitigate risks, while also enhancing reputation and building stakeholder trust. This position can be based in APCO's Washington DC or New York office.

Responsibilities

  • Support to design and implement multi-faceted, integrated campaigns to position client issues and priorities with key audiences that may include media, key opinion leaders, consumers and industry stakeholders
  • Create and edit high-quality written deliverables, such as bespoke messaging, issue backgrounders, briefings, press materials, and social media content often under tight deadlines
  • Drive thought leadership initiatives, positioning clients as industry experts and leaders in their field
  • Monitor developments in key client issue areas and flag opportunities for further client engagement
  • Participate in business development activities including writing proposals and developing pitch decks
  • Lead client projects, by project managing deliverables and timelines, coordinating across workstreams and coordinating with clients
  • Support client and industry events with overall annual research and strategy, as well as occasional on-the-ground planning and logistical support
  • Support crisis preparedness and mitigation as needed by contributing to scenario plans, drafting statements and conducting media monitoring, demonstrating a grasp of the media environment and surfacing trends and insights from the content
  • Prepare metrics reports for clients to demonstrate impact of cross-functional work, including digital and traditional media
  • Develop advisory skills by anticipating client needs, flagging media and digital opportunities, preparing media and digital strategies and counseling on in-the-moment challenges
  • Manage entry-level colleagues and provide timely feedback to meet deadlines and deliver against client objectives

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of strategic communications experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Exceptional writing and analytical skills, and the ability to write both strategically and creatively under tight deadlines
  • Outstanding presentation skills including the ability to engage senior colleagues and present to senior-level clients
  • Solid project management experience, including overseeing a team and multiple deliverables
  • Strong understanding of the media relations landscape. Able to build earned media strategies and execute against them to drive results.
  • Familiarity with AI tools to summarize content, conduct research, prepare reports, draft materials and assist with editing
  • Advisory experience preferred
  • Proficiency in media and monitoring tools including Muck Rack, Cision, PR Newswire, TV Eyes and Talkwalker or other similar tools preferred
  • Proficiency in developing and amplifying content for various social channels, including LinkedIn, X and Instagram preferred
  • Compensation

    The US base salary for this position ranges from $65,000 / year to $80,000 / year. Our compensation range for this role is inclusive of several US geographic markets. APCO targets an employee's pay within this range to be based on several factors, which include but are not limited to relevant education, skills, job-related knowledge, qualifications, work experience, credentials, internal equity and / or geographic location.
